초록

Objective: The objective of this study is to measure the effectiveness and easiness of Rolling method compared to that of Bass' method, and to compare the effectiveness of plaque control.
Method: One hundred twenty-seven 6th graders in a primary school participated in this study. Subjects were allocated into groups of Rolling method and Bass’ method. Baseline plaque score was measured using Turesky's plaque index before the first instruction. The first instuction was done by standardized class-based education for both groups. Instant plaque control effectiveness was measured just after the first instruction. After one week, subjects' plaque score was measured again, and evaluation with individual plaque control instruction was done. This individual evaluation and instruction was done for two times at a week's interval. Subjects' perception about easiness of methods was measured by self-administered questionnaire.
Results: Although subjects felt that Rolling method was easier than Bass' method for the first time class-based instruction, this difference of subjective easiness was not statistically significant after one week of instruction(P=0432). Effectiveness of plaque score reduction of class-based single time instruction was regressive after a week compared to that of individual plaque control instruction of which regression was not appeared for two weeks. In conclusion, Rolling method can not be said to be easier than Bass' method for subjects, and single time class-based plaque control instruction was not effective.
