농악12차 벅구놀이의 표현양상과 지역적 특성 (Modal expression and regional characteristics of Beokgunori of the Nongak-12Cha)

초록

본 연구에서는 경상도 진주 지역을 근거지로 전국적인 활동을 해 왔던 유랑예인집단 ‘솟대쟁이패’와 그 승계 집단인 ‘농악12차’의 벅구놀이에 주목하여 표현양상을 살피고 “경상도는 벅구놀이”라는 언술을 얻게 된 연유와 전국 단위로 유명세를 타고 확산된 배경과 요인을 밝히려 한다. 또 경상도 지역에서 전승되는 농악12차 벅구놀이의 지역적 개성과 고유성의 본질을 밝히고자 한다. 솟대쟁이패의 벅구놀이가 전국적인 유명세를 떨칠 수 있었던 배경은 독특한 공중기예와 군사놀이의 교전 장면과 같은 매력적인 공연 골자를 보유하고 있었고, 풍부한 물산의 집산지로서 본거지 진주 고을에 대규모 장시가 열려 상업적인 연행물을 창출할 수 있었으며, 이를 소비할 수 있는 자본시장과 사회적 기반이 형성되어 있었기 때문이다. 솟대쟁이패는 1936년 조직이 와해되었으나 해방 이후 옛 농악이 재현되어 ‘농악12차’라는 이름으로 중요무형문화재로 지정되었고 그 기예들이 승계되어 90년대 이후 진주삼천포농악으로 맥을 이어 오늘에 이른다.
솟대쟁이패와 농악12차 벅구놀이의 표현양상은 대체로 두루걸이, 뒤짐벅구, 짚는벅구, 솟음벅구 등으로 나타난다. 노는 형식에 따라서는 허튼놀이, 기교 놀음, 진풀이 놀음 등이 있다. 벅구놀이의 진풀이는 대개 원형진으로부터 시작하여 장사진, 오행진, 태극진, 팔자진, 육화진 등을 거쳐 다시 원형으로 돌아오는 방식으로 진행된다. 농악12차 벅구잽이의 몸놀림의 특징은 발 디딤새가 부드럽고 자연스러우며 가락의 흐름을 온 몸으로 받아 안고 돌다보니 유연성이 높다는 점이다. 채상 웃놀음은 기본적인 채상놀림과 걸음걸이의 변화에 따라 다양한 형태의 각종 변형 양상이 나타나며, 발의 움직임이 채상의 다양한 형식과 질서를 창조한다. 벅구잽이들은 타 악사들이 연주하는 농악 장단의 소리와 가락 흐름을 몸짓에 의해 시각적으로 보여줌으로써 전체 판굿의 맥락 속에서 생동하는 실체로 인식되며 역동적이고 집단적인 생명활동의 주체로 기능한다. 따라서 농악12차에서 벅구잽이는 군사놀이 농악의 서사적 텍스트의 주인공이 되고, 연예판굿 농악의 ‘꽃’으로 상징되며 역동적 생동감의 요체를 만들어내는 창조적 존재로서의 위상을 갖는다.
농악12차 채상 벅구놀이의 지역적 개성은 경상도 지역 특유의 박력 있고 활달한 향토춤인 덧배기춤의 전형적인 품새가 잘 반영되어 나타나며, 진주에 설치된 경상우병영의 군사 진법 영향으로 상무적 기풍을 견지하고 있다는 점이다. 또한 지역의 세시풍속 전통과 그에 따르는 주술종교적 믿음 체계가 다양하게 투영되고 있으며, 솟대쟁이패의 공중곡예술의 기법이 창조적으로 접목되어 나타난다는 점이다. 경상도의 지리와 역사적 환경에서 탄생한 벅구놀이는 타 지역의 것에 비해 전투적이고 공격적인 성향을 지니고 있으며 곡예와 기예의 요소가 특별히 부각되었다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 점들이 농악12차 벅구놀이의 지역적 개성으로 유지되며 그 정체성을 지속할 수 있었다.

영어초록

This study is to investigate the modal expression of 'Sotdaejaengipae', a artist group wandering throughout the country based in Jinju area of Gyeongsang province and 'Nongak-12Cha', its successor group focusing on the Beokgunori and is to investigate the reason of the phrase of "Gyeongsang province is Beokgunori" and the background and factors of its spread with the fame across the nation. Also, it is to explore the nature of the regional individuality and uniqueness of Beokgunori of the Nongak-12Cha handed down in Gyeongsang province. The nationwide popularity of Beokgunori of Sotdaejaengipae was based on the unique somersault and the characteristics of the military play, the appearance of the commercial Nongak along with the large-scaled fair ground in Jinju area as a trading center for abundant local products, and the formation of the capital market and social base on which the products could be consumed. Although Sotdaejaengipae had collapsed in 1936, it was designated as an important intangible cultural asset in the name of 'Nongak-12Cha' after the liberation. And its arts has been carried on to the present day in Jinjusamcheonpo Nongak since the 1990s.
Gesture expression of Beokgunori of Sotdaejaengipae and the Nongak-12Cha mainly is mainly composed of Durugeoli(Yeonpungdae), Duijimbeokgu(Overturingof board), Jipneunbeokgu (Sitting posture), Soteumbeokgu. It is classified into the play in the format of Heoteunnori, the play in the technical skill, and the play in the battle formation in accordance with the play format. The play in the battle formation of Beokgunori usually starts from the circular battle formation through Jansajin, Ohaengjin, Taegeukjin, Paljajin, Yukhwajin back to the circular form. Characteristics of the Beokgujaebi movements are the smooth and natural Didimsae movement and increased flexibility of the whole body attuned to the flows of rhythm in spinning. A variety of modified aspects are revealed depending on the basic Chaesangnolim such as Oesa, GGogjisa, Sasa and the change of gait in Chaesang Eutnoleum. Therefore, it may be said that the foot movement creates a variety of formats and order of Chaesang. Since the Beokgujaebi showed the sounds and melodies of Nongak rhythms through the body movement, they would be perceived as the living entity in the context of the entire Pangut and act as the principal of the dynamic and collective life activities. Therefore, the Beokgujaebi was the epic hero of the military play in the Nongak-12Cha and had a position of the core clown in the playground centered round acrobatics and an important figure with the dynamic vitality at the same time.
Typical Poomsae of Deotbaegi-Chum which is powerful, active, and specific to Gyeongsang province, a folk dance, is well-reflected as the regional characteristics of Beokgunori of the Nongak-12Cha and martial spirit of the battle formation operated in the right military facilities of Gyeongsang province installed in Jinju area. In addition, the aerial acrobatics of Sotdaejaengipae based in Jinju area is handed down and transformed. And the transmission of new year event resulting from the union of the system of Dure and the intent and the behavior properties of homeopathic magic for expelling misfortune and bringing luck are revealed. It is said that the environment clearly grants some features to the residents in the relevant area and the features become more distinctive through long settlement in certain area for generations. For these reasons, it may be said that Beokgunori born in the geographical and historical environment of Gyeongsang province with the magnified acrobatic and artistic feats is more militant and aggressive than those of other areas. Regional characteristics of Beokgunori of the Nongak-12Cha and its identity can be maintained centered around such points.
