초록

현 사회에서 디지털 미디어 시대의 도래는 편리성과 함께 여러 문제점을 가져오기도 했지만, 인간 생활의 다양성과 인간 삶의 질적 향상을 가져왔다는 면에서 전반적으로 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있다. 이러한 디지털 미디어 시대에서 가장 대표되는 것으로서 멀티미디어를 바탕으로 하는 온라인 웹 기술을 들 수 있다. 웹상에서 가장 큰 문제는 결국 오디오 또는 비디오 데이터를 구현하기 위한 데이터양의 전송 문제가 가장 크다.
이러한 면에서 온라인 웹 기술의 빠른 진화는 여러 분야의 역할이 있겠지만, 가장 대표되는 것으로 하드웨어를 바탕으로 하는 화상, 디스플레이를 포함한 영상 기술과 데이터 압축 기술의 발전으로 대표된다. 이 영상 압축 기술의 발전은 모바일과 컴퓨터를 비롯한 모든 영상·방송 관련 기기에 영향을 주고 있다. 현 시대에 있어 디지털 기술의 비약적인 발전은 디지털 미디어 시대라고 지칭될 정도로 일반 생활화 되었다. 실례로서 이러한 기술의 적용은 부분적으로 상용화 되고 있다.
이에 본 논문은 현 디지털 미디어 시대에 있어 온라인 웹 기술의 발전과 이에 대표적으로 기여한 영상 압축 기술과 주요 기술 분야에 대해서 알아보고자 한다. 그리고 현 시대에 있어 디지털 미디어의 역할에 대해서 논의하고자 한다. 또한 동영상을 웹상에서 구현할 수 있게 한 기술들의 대표적인 사례에 대해 알아보고, 이를 통해 앞으로의 디지털 미디어 발전 전망에 대해서 논하고자 한다.
결론적으로 디지털 미디어 시대에 있어서 국제경쟁력 강화를 위해서는 하드웨어와 함께 소프트웨어의 발전에도 관심을 기우려야 할 시기란 것이다. 우선적으로 우리나라 디지털 산업계에서 필요한 것은 하드웨어를 받쳐줄 프로그램 개발을 위한 교육과 이를 바탕으로 하는 기술개발과정의 구축이 필요하다. 이를 위해 산업계와 학계 간의 연계를 통한 기술 개발의 장을 지금보다 더욱 다각적인 방향에서 진행해 나아가야 할 것이다. 또한 관련 분야에 대한 인재양성 및 미디어 컨버전스에 관심을 기울여야 할 것이다.

What is needed in the digital industry, primarily in Korea give hardware support for program development based on this technology to education and the construction of the development process is needed.
