초록

창세기 3장 1-5절에 기록된 뱀과 하와의 대화는 내러티브 흐름을 바꾸는 결정적인 역할을 한다. 야웨-엘로힘의 창조 행위, 에덴에서의 조화로운 삶은 뱀의 등장으로부터 깨지기 시작하고, 아담과 하와는 자신들에게 금지된 선과 악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매를 먹고 에덴에서 추방됐다. 더욱이 뱀이 하와에게 한 세 가지 예견이 성취되었는데, 열매를 먹어도 죽지 않을 것이고 눈이 열릴 것이며, 선과 악을 아는 일에 하나님과 같이 될 것이라는 예견이 뱀의 성취된 예견이다. 뱀의 예견이 성취됨으로써 뱀의 말은 거짓이 아니라 진실이었음이 드러나는 것이다. 그러나 창세기 저자는 뱀의 예견이 성취되고 그의 말이 진실된 것이었음에도, 그의 말을 들은 아담과 하와가 겪은 결말이 아름답지 않았으며, 오히려 에덴을 경작하고 지켜야 하는 두 사람이 존재 이유가 상실되었음을 묘사한다. 이를 통하여 야웨-엘로힘과 관계없는 지혜는 비극적인 결말을 가져온다는 것을 독자들에게 보여준다.

영어초록

The dialogue between the serpent and Eve recorded in Genesis 3:1-5 plays a crucial role in altering the narrative flow recorded in Genesis 2-3. The harmony of creation and Eden had been broken from the moment of the appearance of the serpent, and Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden because of eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil after hearing the serpent’s words. Therefore, the readers are likely to perceive the serpent as the negative figure because it not only destroyed the harmonious life in the Garden of Eden, but also caused tragedy in the life of Adam and Eve, who were created in the image of God. However, it should be noted that all the serpent’s declarations that Adam and Eve would not die from consuming the fruit, and their eyes would be opened, and they would be like God knowing good and evil, were fulfilled. Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and God had warned them that they would certainly die when they eat from it. Hence, when it was revealed that they did not die, and the serpent’s words were true, it is a shocking fact to the readers, and it is enough to raise doubts about whose words are true. The author of Genesis 2-3 deals with wisdom through the composition of the serpent’s declarations and fulfillment. The author indicates that although the serpent’s words had been fulfilled and proven to be true, the results it brought were miserable, because eventually, Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden and they lost the reason of their existence for they previously had moved to the Garden of Eden to cultivate Eden. Genesis 2-3 deals with wisdom, but it shows the readers through the serpent that wisdom that is irrelevant to God will eventually cause catastrophe.
