구약신학에 있어서 창조의 진정한 회복: 폰 라드의 역사적 신앙고백에 대한비판적 검토를 중심으로 (The Real Recovery of Creation in Old Testament Theology : Focusing on the Critical Review of Gerhard von Rad’s “the Short Historical Creed”)

초록

“구약신학에 있어서 창조의 상실과 회복”이라는 논문에서 브루그만은 폰 라드가 신학에 있어서 창조를 “주변화(marginalization)”시킴으로 “구약신학에 있어서 창조의 상실”을 초래하였으나 창조를 구약신학 해석의 지평으로 간주하는 “새로운 패러다임”이 등장하여 “구약신학에 있어서 창조의 회복”이 일어났다고 주장하였다.
본 논문은 먼저 브루그만이 말하는 “새로운 패러다임”이 폰 라드에 의해 상실된 창조를 회복하는 것인지를 브루그만의 『구약신학』을 예로 들어 비판적으로 검토하였다. 그리고 이어서 창조의 상실을 초래한 폰 라드의 주장과 그 문제점들을 진단하고 성경을 권위있는 하나님의 계시의 말씀으로 보는“성경적” 논의를 통해서 창조의 본래의 위치를 회복하는 것이 “구약신학에 있어서 창조의 진정한 회복”임을 제시하였다. 폰 라드는 소위 “역사적 신앙고백”(신명기 26:5b-9; 6:20-24; 수 24:2b-13)이 오경의 형성과정에서 절대적인 위치를 갖고 있었고 이 “역사적 신앙고백” 안에 창조나 시내산 사건이 언급되어 있지 않고 주로 포로기 이후의 본문들에서 발견된다고 가정하며 창조교리는 구속사에 부가된 신앙적인 진술이라고 주장한다.
그러나 “역사적 신앙고백”을 “성경적”으로 검토해 본 결과 본문과 본문의 전후 문맥에 창조와 창조주 하나님이 내포되어 있음을 확인하였다. 신명기 26:5b-9는 단순히 하나님의 구원을 진술하는 구원사의 요약이나 신앙고백이 아니라 출애굽과 가나안 땅으로의 귀환을 회상하며 창조주 하나님의 언약이 선취되었음을 확언하는 것이다. 약속과 성취를 내용으로 하는 “역사적 회상”은 창조를 배경으로 하고 있으며 창조언약의 연장선 상에서 이해해야 한다. 하나님의 창조가 언약의 신학적 근거요 출발점이기 때문이다. 폰 라드는“신앙고백 가설”에 저해가 되는 시내산 사건을 의도적으로 “역사적 신앙고백”에서 배제해 버렸으나 본문의 “성경적” 문맥은 오히려 출애굽 사건이 시내산 언약을 주신 창조주 하나님께서 행하신 일임을 드러내고 있다.
창조는 신앙고백에 의해 형성된 구속사의 부산물이 아니라 성경이 가장 먼저 선언한 진리이다. 성경은 창조에 대한 이해가 신학적으로 구속에 대한 이해보다 우선함을 분명히 한다. 신학의 출발점은 구원이 아니라 창조에 대한 성경의 가르침이다. 창세기는 처음부터 하나님을 이 세상의 창조주로 계시하고 있다. 구약성경이 역사 속에 행하신 하나님의 행위에 대한 신앙고백이라는 폰 라드의 견해는 성경을 “계시”가 아니라 인간의 경험과 지식의 산물로 간주하는 것이다. 성경은 “하나님의 계시”이지 “신앙고백”이 아니다. 성경의 강조점은 “인간이 하나님에 대해 어떻게 생각했느냐”가 아니고 “하나님이 자신을 인간에게 어떻게 알리셨느냐”에 있다. “상실된 창조”의 회복은 창조를 구약의 지평으로 삼는 패러다임의 변화가 아니고 “역사적 신앙고백”에 대한 “성경적” 논의를 통해서 가능한 것이다

In his article, “The Loss and Recovery of Creation in Old Testament Theology,” Walter Brueggemann argued that Gerhard von Rad caused the loss of creation in Old Testament theology by “marginalizing” creation in theology; however, as a “new paradigm” that takes creation as the horizon of Old Testament theological interpretation emerged, the recovery of creation took place in Old Testament theology.
This paper, first, critically examines if the “new paradigm” mentioned by Brueggemann would recover creation lost by von Rad. In addition, this paper diagnoses the problems with von Rad’s argument causing the loss of creation in Old Testament theology, and suggests that only by the “biblical” discussion considering the bible as the word of the authoritative revelation of God would be the true recovery of creation in Old Testament theology.
Von Rad argues that the so-called “the short historical creed”(Deu 26:5b-9; 6:20-24; Jos 24:2b-13) took the absolute position in the process of the formation of the Pentateuch, that the Creation of the world or the events of Mt. Sinai were not mentioned in “the historical Creed” but it is found in the texts written after the exilic period and that the doctrine of creation was a religious statement added to the doctrine of redemption.
However, as a result of a “biblical” examination of “the short historical creed” in this paper, it is found that creation and God the Creator were implied in the biblical context of the historical creed. This means that “the historical creed” is not a summary of the history of Salvation that simply states God’s Salvation or a confession. It is confirmation that the promise of God the Creator has been fulfilled, reminding people of their exodus from Egypt and their return to Canaan. “Historical anamnesis” about this promise and fulfillment is based on creation and should be understood as an extension of the creation covenant, for God’s creation is the theological ground and starting point of his promise. Von Rad intentionally excludes the events of Mt. Sinai that hinders “a confession hypothesis” from the “historical confession of faith.” However, the biblical context of “the historical creed” reveals that the Exodus was conducted by God the Creator, who made a covenant at Mt. Sinai(esp. Deu 4:32-34).
Creation is not a by-product of the history of salvation formed by a confession, but an actual event described in Genesis. The Bible says that the understanding of creation theologically precedes the understanding of salvation. The starting point of theology is the Bible’s teaching of creation, not of salvation. Genesis reveals that God is the Creator of this world from the beginning. Von Rad’s opinion that the Old Testament is a confession of divine activity in history considers the Bible as a product of human experience and knowledge, not “revelation.” The Bible is “God’s revelation” not “a confession.” The Bible’s emphasis is not on what men thought about God, but on how God let men know about Himself. The recovery of lost creation is possible through “biblical” discussion about “the historical creed,” not through the change of the paradigm that takes creation as the horizon of the Old Testament.
