초록

이 논문은 회고와 전망의 성격을 가지는 글로서, 2024년 시점에서 백제사 연구의 현재 동향과 이에 대한 성찰을 담고 있다. 백제사 연구의 양적 팽창에 따른 명암, 사료의 발굴과 연구 스펙트럼 확장을 위한 노력, 백제사 성과의 활용과 대중화의 딜레마 문제를 중심으로 논의하였다.
백제사 연구의 양적 팽창에 따른 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 초창기 자료들에 대한 데이터화와 활용을 통해서 연구사적 맥락을 존중하며, 연구의 질적 내실화를 위한 고민과 성찰이 필요하다. 또한 백제사 사료의 한계를 돌파하기 위한 사료 발굴 노력과 연구 주제의 개발 및 새로운 연구방법론의 도입을 위해 꾸준히 노력해야 할 것이다.
백제사 연구 성과의 활용에 있어서 가장 우려되는 것은 역사문화권의 정비와 역사 대중화 문제이다. 현재 추진되고 있는 역사문화권 계획은 백제사의 실상을 왜곡하는 결과를 초래하고 있다. 백제학 관련 기관과 학회, 연구자들이 현재의 역사문화권 문제에 관심을 가지고 대책을 마련해야 할 것이다.
마지막으로, 백제학 연구의 발전과 활용을 위해서는 학문 후속세대 육성에 관심을 기울여야 한다. 향후에도 백제사 연구와 교육, 그리고 그 활용에 대한 끊임없는 성찰과 논의가 지속되어야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This paper presents a retrospective assessment and a prospective outlook on Baekje history research, examining its current trends and critical reflections as of 2024.
The discussion addresses both the opportunities and challenges associated with the quantitative expansion of Baekje history research, the efforts to uncover new historical sources and broaden the scope of research topics, and the complexities surrounding the application and popularization of research findings. While the expansion of Baekje history research has contributed to significant advancements, it also necessitates continuous critical engagement to ensure that research maintains its qualitative depth, as this requires a commitment to preserving the historical context of studies, leveraging digitalization and early research materials, and avoiding the production of superficial, hastily conducted research.
Furthermore, sustained efforts are needed to overcome the inherent limitations of existing historical sources on Baekje by actively discovering new materials, developing innovative research themes, and integrating advanced methodologies, so that ongoing discussions can address the challenges of research, education, and the responsible dissemination of Baekje history, while also exploring viable strategies for its effective utilization. One of the most pressing concerns regarding the application of Baekje history research is the formulation of historical-cultural zone frameworks and the potential misrepresentation of historical realities during the popularization process, because the current historical-cultural zoning initiatives risk distorting the historical authenticity of Baekje, highlighting the urgent need for academic institutions, scholarly societies, and researchers to critically engage with these issues, devise countermeasures, and propose viable alternatives.
Lastly, fostering the next generation of scholars is essential to ensuring the continued development and application of Baekje studies, since ongoing discussions must address the challenges of research, education, and the responsible dissemination of Baekje history, while also exploring viable strategies for its effective utilization.
