초록

This article is on the explanation on inscriptions found in the cache No.1 at Zhangbaicun, shaanxi province. 103 bronze wares were excavated from the Zhangbaicun cache. Among them, 74 objects had letters.
Through the analysis of the letters written on the bronze wares, we learned about a family's genealogy and their family name changes. Originally, this family expressed their family names as totems from Shang dynasty to middle of Western Zhou dynasty. However, changes took place in the middle of the Western Zhou dynasty. From this period on, they expressed their last names Combining the names of the regions they controlled with the names(伯･仲･叔･季) that indicated they were the rulers of the region.
In the middle of the Western Zhou dynasty, it was not only the way the family name was expressed changed. The way the ancestors' names were expressed also changed. From the Shang Dynasty to the the middle of the Western Zhou dynasty, the names of deceased ancestors were displayed by combining the names of grandfather, father, and brother with the ten Heavenly Stems(天干). However, in the middle of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the names of the deceased ancestors were marked with Gong(公), Wenkao(文考) etc.
