This paper aims to provide a direction for self-directed German learning using artificial intelligence by analyzing the possibilities and limitations of employing ChatGPT in the writing section of the German education field (DaF). This paper attempts to discuss specific strategies for the utilization of ChatGPT in German writing instruction. Additionally, this study assesses the extent to which ChatGPT can evaluate the email writing texts of learners taking the German Proficiency Test at the A2 level. Furthermore, it examines the capacity of ChatGPT to identify linguistic errors, including lexical, sentence, and grammatical errors, along with discussing the associated challenges, limitations, and potential solutions for these learning methods.
