중부지방 원삼국시대 외줄구들 유형의 변천과정 재검토 - 중도유형문화권을 중심으로 - (Re - examination of change of Underfloor heating system’s pattern in Proto - Three Kingdom’s of Central Region of the Korean peninsula - focusing on the Chungdo style –)

초록

중부지방 원삼국시대 외줄구들 주거지는 지금까지의 연구를 통해 살펴볼 때 후벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들 → 측벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들 → ‘一’자형 외줄구들로의 변천을 거친 것으로 보인다. 지금까지는 각 유형의 출현과 전개가 외부에서 기인한 것으로 보고 이를 특정 정치체의 발전에 따른 변화로 본 견해가 지배적이었으나, 발굴조사에 따른 새로운 형식의 출현으로 각 외줄구들 유형의 계기적 변화를 형식학적으로 확인할 수 있는 근거가 마련되었으며, 이를 바탕으로 최근에는 외줄구들 유형의 정치적 해석을 비판하는 연구도 등장하였다. 외줄구들 연구에 관한 최근의 쟁점은 크게 두 가지로 정리될 수 있다. 그 출자에 관해서는 단결－크로우노브카 문화 등 외부 기원설로 보는 견해가 대부분 일치하지만 중부지방에 정착한 뒤 전개되는 양상에 대해서는 기후 변화 및 주거 공간 활용에 따른 내재적인 변화로 보는 견해와 후벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들, 측벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들, ‘一’자형 외줄구들이 각자 다른 계통으로 각자의 출자와 유입시기가 상이하였다는 견해로 나누어진다. 본고에서는 먼저 외줄구들의 분류를 재설정한 뒤 기존 편년안에 입각하여 시간적 선후관계에 의한 단계설정 및 변화과정을 살펴본 후 지역적으로 어떠한 분포양상을 이루는지 살펴보았다. 결과적으로 외줄구들 유형이 후벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들 → 측벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들 → ‘一’자형 외줄구들로의 변천을 보이지만 형식적으로 후벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들 중 정형에서 벗어난 일부 변형된 개체에 주목, 이를 따로 유형화한 뒤 시간성을 부여하였다. 외줄구들은 도입기에는 북한강 상류에 제한적으로 분포하지만, 전체적으로 이 시기 취락은 외줄구들보다는 노지가 압도적으로 많이 사용된다. 이후 북한강 상류에서는 외줄구들이 점진적으로 소멸되며 대신 임진·한탄강 상류와 풍납토성 이동 한강 중류에 확산, 정착되는 양상이 확인된다. 이후 이 지역에서 외줄구들 유형의 분화가 발생하는데, 최종적으로 후벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들이 소멸하고 측벽부 ‘ㄱ’자형 외줄구들과 ‘一’자형 외줄구들이 출현하지만 이후 ‘一’자형 외줄구들을 중심으로 한강 유역 거의 전역으로 확산되는 것으로 보인다. 따라서 동북한 지역으로부터 전파된 외줄구들이 중부지방에 정착한 이후에 추가적으로 다른 계통의 외줄구들 유형이 단계적으로 유입되거나 각 유형이 단절적이라는 주장은 수긍하기 어렵다.

영어초록

According to the results of the relevant studies, it is thought that the form of underfloor heating system (oejulgudeul) used in houses in the central region of the Korean Peninsula during the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period changed from the ?쒌꽦??shaped system installed near the rear wall of a room (?쏛??type) to the ?쒌꽦??shaped system installed near the side wall of a room (?쏝??type), and then again to the ????shaped (?쏞??type) system. Until recently, most researchers thought that each type of system emerged and developed under the in詮굑ence of external factors, such as a speci詮갷 polity, but excavation surveys have provided the basis by which the haphazard changes in each type of heating system can be con詮걊med typologically, while other recent studies have criticized any political interpretation of the types of heating systems. Recently, two controversies have arisen among researchers about the underfloor heating systems. Although most researchers agree that the heating system originated from the Duanjie-Krounovka culture, they are divided in their views about its development after the settlement of the central region of the Korean Peninsula. Some researchers believe that the heating system gradually developed amid climatic changes and the growing need to use a residential space, while others think that each of the three types was adopted from a different source and at a different time. This study reestablishes their classification, establishes stages of development, and reviews the process of change based on their temporal order relation in accordance with existing chronological records, and examines their distribution patterns in different regions. The results of the study show that the heating system changed from the “A” type to the “B” and then “C” types. As regards those that deviated from the standardized form among the “A” type systems, this study categorizes them and examines how they changed over time. At first, the heating system in question was distributed only in areas along the upper reaches of the Bukhangang River; and many more houses used a charcoal stove than an underfloor heating system. Later, however, the heating system gradually disappeared from this area, and instead came to be used in areas along the upper reaches of the Imjingang and Hantangang Rivers and in the midstream area of the Hangang River to the east of the Pungnaptoseong Earthen Fortification. In these areas, the “A” type of heating system gradually disappeared to be replaced by the “B” and “C” types, after which the latter gradually spread to most of the areas along the Hangang River. Thus, it is difficult to accept the view that other types of heating system were gradually adopted after those that spread from the Northeastern region of the Korean Peninsula settled in the central region or that each type developed independently from each other.
