중부지방 원삼국시대 중도식 무문토기 연구 - 영동ㆍ영서지역 출토유적을 중심으로 - (Study on Jung-do Style Plain Pottery of Proto-Three Kingdoms Period found in the Central Districts - Mainly on Yeongdong and Yeongseo Areas -)

초록

중부지방의 원삼국 문화를 이해하는데 있어서 중도식 무문토기는 타날문 토기와 함께 가장 표지적인 유물이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 그동안 연구의 중심이 타날문 토기와 유구에 집중된 반면 중도식 무문토기에 대해서는 비교적 세밀하게 다루어지지 못한 측면이 있었다. 그러한 이유에는 여러 요인이 있겠으나 기형의 변화 양상이 뚜렷하지 않은 중도식 무문토기의 특징에 기인하는 바가 크다고 판단된다.
이 글에서는 원삼국시대의 문화 양상을 파악하기 위한 수단의 일환으로 중도식 무문토기의 변화 양상 및 단계를 설정하고 간략하게 이러한 변화양상의 의미를 파악하는 작업을 시도하였다. 지역적으로는 최근 조사예가 증가하여 일정한 개체수가 확보되었으며, 중도식 무문토기 기종 자체의 변화상을 파악하기에 용이하다고 판단되는 영동ㆍ영서지역(남한강유역) 출토 유적에 국한하였다.
유물의 분류는 주거지 출토 완형토기를 대상으로 외반구연호, 내만구연호, 유경호의 세가지 주요 기종으로 구분하고 다시 크기에 따라 나누어 외반구연호를 A(대형)와 B(소형), 유경호도 A(대형)ㆍB(소형)로 세분하였다. 또한, 이들 기종은 각각 경부직경과 저부직경의 변화에 따라 분석의 기준이 되는 개별 기형으로 분류되며, 구분된 기종 및 기형을 기준으로 유구단위의 MDS(Multi Dimensional Scaling)분석을 시도하였다.
분석결과, 중도식 무문토기의 제 기종들은 기형의 변화가 비교적 뚜렷하지 않으나 어느 정도 동일한 방향으로 변화되는 양상이 관찰되었으며, 이러한 변화상은 영동지역과 영서지역(남한강유역)에서 약간의 시기차를 두고 나타나는 것으로 파악되었다.
전반적인 중도식 무문토기의 변화 양상은 외반구연호의 경우 크기에 따라 약간의 차이가 있지만 대체로 경부직경과 저부직경이 좁은 것에서 넓은 것으로 변화되는 모습을 나타내며, 내만구연호는 저부직경이 넓은 것에서 좁은 것으로 점차 변화하는 것으로 파악된다. 유경호는 대형의 경우 구연부가 직립→외반→꺽임의 순으로 나타나고 소형 개체는 비교적 늦은 3단계에서부터 나타나는 특징을 보인다.
이러한 변화상을 토대로 지역별로 분기를 설정한 결과 영동지역은 4기, 영서지역은 3기로 세분되며, 전체적으로는 4단계의 설정이 가능하다.

영어초록

The most remarkable relics contributing to understanding of Proto-Three Kingdoms Period of the central districts are Jung-do style plain potteries and potteries with stamped design. However, the past study mostly focused on potteries with stamped design and relics, and Jung-do style plain potteries have not been studied throughly in the past. There could be various reasons for the lack of study on Jung-do style plain potteries, but I judged that it is because the characteristics of the potteries do not show clear phases of development.
As a means to understand the cultural phases of Proto-Three Kingdoms Period, this study established developing phases and steps of Jung-do style plain potteries and tried to understand the meanings of these developments briefly. Lately, local inspection samples has increased to secure regular numbers of individuals, and this study is limited to relics excreted in Yeongdong and Yeongseo areas (Namhan River area) because I judge that those relics are the samples for easier understanding of development of Jung-do style plain potteries.
Based on the complete potteries excreted from the areas, the relics are classified into 3 major classes: pots with outward mouths, pots with inward mouths and gourd bottles. Then, based on their sizes, pots with outward mouths and gourd bottles were classified into A (large) and B (small). Also, these classes are separated into individual shapes based on the changes in the diameters of mouths and bottom parts to form the basis of analysis. With the classified classes and shapes, MDS(multi dimensional scaling) were performed on the relics.
The analytic result show that all classes of Jung-do style plain potteries have comparatively unclear development of shapes, but they still have a similar developmental phases. These developmental phases are shown in a little different periods in Yeongdong and Yeongseo areas (Namhan River area).
From the general developmental phases of Jung-do style plain potteries, pots with outward mouths show a little difference in sizes, but basically, the diameters of the mouths and the bottom parts are increasing, and pots with inward mouths shows the decrease of the diameters of the bottom parts. With large gourd bottles, their mouths were first standing straight, then outward and lastly bent and small gourd bottles are showing the third step comparatively late.
Establishing the separate periods based on these developmental phases, Yeongdong areas were classified into the fourth period, Yeongseo areas into the third period. Generally the developmental phases are classified into four steps.
