2022 개정 국어과 교육과정에서의 설화 교육 방안 연구 - <아기장수 우투리>와 <반쪽이>를 중심으로 - (The Acceptance Pattern of Korean Language Textbooks in and A Study on the Educational Use of folktales)

초록

학교 교육 현장에서는 고전 서사 문학 작품들이 교육 자료로 수록되어 있다. 그중에서 설화는 신화, 전설, 민담이 중학교 국어 교과서에 교육 제재로 활용되고 있다. 중학교 국어 교과서에 수록되는 설화 작품을 보면, 2015 개정 교육과정의 경우 2009 개정 교육과정에 비해 설화작품 수가 2배로 늘어나는 양적 측면의 확대가 이루어졌다. 그러나 대부분의 설화 작품들은참고자료나 추가 읽기 자료로 제한적으로 활용되고 있으며, ‘읽기 영역’에서 요약하기를 중심으로 학습활동이 이루어지고 있는 한계점을 보인다. 또한 2015 개정 교육과정에서 요구하는‘비판적⋅창의적 사고 역량’과 ‘문화 향유 역량’ 함양을 위한 설화 문학 작품의 특징을 활용할수 있는 측면이 있음에도 불구하고 학교 교육 현장에서는 설화 문학 작품을 비문학적 성격으로 접근하고 있다. 따라서 새롭게 개정되는 2022 개정 교육과정에서 요구하는 역량 함양과설화 문학 작품의 특징을 반영한 설화 교육 방안을 새롭게 모색할 필요가 있다.
특히 중학교 국어 교과서에 가장 많이 수록되었던 <아기장수 우투리> 설화는 영웅적인능력을 지녔지만, 자신의 능력을 발휘하지 못하여 비극적 죽음을 맞이하는 설화로 널리 알려져 있다. <아기장수 우투리> 설화는 전국적으로 널리 전승되는 광포 전설로 전승되어 중요한설화 문학 작품으로 인정받아 중학교 1학년∼3학년의 국어 교과서에 모두 수록되었지만, 2015 개정 교육과정에서는 중학교 국어 교과서에 수록되지 않았다. ‘민중적 영웅’에 대한 비판적·창의적인 성취기준과 학습 목표에 적절하지 않아 교과서에 수록되지 않았다. 영웅에 대한 사회ㆍ문화적 맥락에 대한 이해가 뒷받침되지 않는 교육 제재로 활용되어 온 한계점이 문제라 할 수 있을 것이다.
따라서 다양한 사회ㆍ문화적 맥락을 기반으로 작품을 이해해야 하는 설화 문학 작품의 특성과 입으로 구비전승되는 구술성을 지니는 설화는 새롭게 개정되는 2022 개정 교육과정의 역량함양을 위해 교육 제제로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. <아기장수 우투리> 설화와 비슷한 구조를지니지만, 장애라는 한계를 극복하는 긍정적인 결말로 이야기되는 <반쪽이> 설화와의 비교를통해 고난과 시련을 극복하는 방법, 차별에 대한 올바른 이해는 ‘비판적ㆍ창의적 사고 역량’을함양하는 기반을 마련해 줄 수 있을 것이다. 또한 입으로 전승되는 설화가 가지는 ‘낭독’의 특징은 설화 작품의 팟캐스트 창작 활동을 통해 ‘디지털ㆍ미디어 역량’을 함양하기 위한 교육 제재로 활용되어 교육적 가치를 높이는데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

Classical narrative literature works are included as educational materials in the school education field. Myths, legends, and folktales are used as educational sanctions in middle school official language textbooks. Looking at the folktales contained in middle school official language textbooks, the 2015 revised curriculum saw a quantitative expansion in which the number of folktales doubled compared to the 2009 revised curriculum. However, most of the folktales are limitedly used as reference materials or additional reading materials, and learning activities are limited in the reading area. In addition, despite the fact that there is an aspect that can utilize the characteristics of folktales’ literary works to cultivate ‘critical and creative thinking competencies’ and ‘competencies to enjoy culture’ required by the 2015 revised curriculum, the school education field approaches folktales literary works as a non-literary character. Therefore, it is necessary to newly seek a way to educate folktales by reflecting the characteristics of folktales’ literary works that can cultivate the competencies required by the newly revised 2022 curriculum.
In particular, the story of <Baby Longevity Uturi>, which was most often included in middle school Korean textbooks, has heroic abilities, but is widely known as a story that leads to a tragic death by failing to demonstrate one’s abilities. The story of <Baby Longevity Uturi> has been widely handed down throughout the country and has been recognized as an important literary work, so it was included in all Korean textbooks for the first to third grades of middle school, but in the 2015 revised curriculum, only one was included in the literature textbook. It may not be included in the textbook because it is not appropriate for critical and creative achievement standards and learning goals for “people heroes,” but the limitation that has been used as a material for folktales that does not support an understanding of the social and cultural context of heroes is a problem.
Therefore, folktales that require understanding of works based on various social and cultural contexts and oral traditions can be used as folktales to cultivate the competence of the newly revised 2022 curriculum. It has a structure similar to that of the <Baby Longevity Uturi> folktales, but through comparison with the <Pajjoki> folktales, which are told as a positive ending to overcome the limitations of disability, how to overcome hardships and trials, and a correct understanding of discrimination can lay the foundation for cultivating “critical and creative thinking competencies.” In addition, the characteristics of “reading” of folktales that are handed down through the mouth can play an important role in enhancing educational value by being used as an educational sanction to cultivate “digital and media competencies” through podcast creation activities of folktales.
