『계암일록』을 통해 본 17세기 예안사족 김령의 인맥기반 형성과 특징 (Formation of 17th Century Learned Man of Ye-an, Ryeong Kim's Personnel Connections Base Investigated through Gye-am Daily Journal, Its Extension and the Meaning of Change)

초록

17세기 禮安의 재지사족 김령(1577~1641)은 27세가 되던 1603년(선조 36)부터 생을 마감한 65세의 1641년(인조 19)까지 장장 39년 동안 거의 매일 일기를 썼는데, 이 일기를 『溪巖日錄』이라 부른다. 일기에는 김령의 일상생활과 더불어 예안 및 주변 향촌사회의 온갖 사건들 그리고 그에 대한 그의 감정과 판단이 비교적 솔직하게 녹아있다. 또 朝報를 얻어 보거나 지인들의 편지 및 풍문을 통해 그때그때의 정치적 동향을 거의 실시간 수준으로 기록하면서 그에 대한 자신의 생각 역시 꽤 솔직하게 곁들여 놓았다. 이러한 내용들은 김령의 기록 성향에 따른 『계암일록』의 특징으로 파악된다. 단순 사실의 건조한 기록을 넘어 멀고 가까운 주변의 각종 사건들이 자신의 감성과 더불어 생생하게 쓰여져 있기 때문이다. 그리고 이 모든 이야기의 중심에 사람이 있다. 그들 각각의 상황과 입장, 그에 따른 처세가 교차되면서 많은 갈등이 발생하고 그 갈등을 기점으로 일련의 사건들이 벌어지는 것이다. 김령은 이러한 이야기들에 때로는 주연으로 때로는 조연으로 때로는 관객으로 등장하며, 그때마다의 시각으로 사건들을 기록하였다. 그 밑바탕에는 자신과 그물처럼 얽혀 있는 수많은 사람들과의 관계망이 깔려 있는데, 이 관계망은 김령의 삶이 경과하는 동안 지속적으로 변화하고 또 재편 확장된다.
『계암일록』은 당시 정치적 판세의 급격한 변화와 영남 퇴계 학맥의 분화 과정, 그리고 예안 및 안동권 사족들의 복잡하게 얽힌 인맥과 다양한 갈등구조를 담고 있다는 점에서, 일찍부터 연구 자료로 주목받아 왔다. 이에 따라 중앙의 정치적 상황과 밀접하게 연동되어 돌아가는 이 시기 향촌사회의 제 방면의 모습들이 상세하게 밝혀졌다. 다만 기존 논문들은 일기에 담긴 결과적 사실을 수용하여 당시 사회 구조를 분석하려 했다는 점에서, 일기라는 기록 자료의 특성과 작성주체의 개성이 함께 설명되지 못했다는 아쉬운 점이 있었다. 본고는 일기의 기록적 속성을 먼저 염두에 두고, 작성주체인 김령의 시선과 생각을 따라가며 당시 정치적 사회적 구조 속에서 그가 어느 지점에 어떻게 위치하는지를 그의 인맥 네트워크 구축을 통해 살펴보고자 한 것이다.
『계암일록』에 나타나는 김령의 복잡한 인간관계망은 시간의 흐름 속에서 긴장 과 타협, 갈등과 소통을 토대로 확장과 재편을 거듭하고 있었다. 당시 예안과 주변 일대는 혼맥과 학맥이 서로 교차하면서 이리저리 뒤얽히고 그에 따라 서로 입장 차가 개입되면서 다양한 갈등이 끝없이 발생하고 있었다. 이 속에서 김령은 어느 쪽에도 휩쓸리지 않는 비교적 중립적인 입장을 견지하였는데, 이것은 갈등과 대립을 거부했던 그의 타고난 성품과 부친을 통한 가학의 전수로 학통 계승의 이해관계에서 남들보다 자유로운 입장이 작용한 결과라고 판단된다.

영어초록

Ryeong Kim(1577~1641), the country nobility[Jaeji Sajok] of the 17th century Ye-an, kept a diary almost every day during the long period of 39 years from his age 27, 1603(Seonjo 36 years) until his death at 65, 1641(Injo 19 years), which diary is called as 『Gye-am Daily Journal』. In the diary, various events of Ye-an and surrounding Hyangchon(country districts) society along with Ryeong Kim’s daily life are relatively frankly included. Also, while recording the political tendency of that period almost in realtime through reading obtained Jobo or acquaintances’ letters and rumor, he also added his thought on the events considerably frankly. These contents are comprehended as the characteristic of 『Gye-am Daily Journal』 according to Ryeong Kim’s record tendency. Because every distant and nearby events around him are vividly written along with his own sensitivity, beyond a dry record of simple fact. And there are people in the center of all the stories. Many conflicts occurred through the cross of each of their situation and position, and their conduct according to them, and a series of events occurred with the starting point of that conflict. Ryeong Kim came on those stories sometimes as the supporting actor and sometimes as the audience, recording the events in view of each of the situation. On the foundation, there was the network with many people, which is tangled between himself and others like a net, which consistently changed, reorganized, and extended while his life went on.
『Gye-am Daily Journal』 early attracted attention as the research data in respect that it contained rapid change of political situation of that time, division process of Yeongnam Toegye School, and complexly tangled personnel connections between Ye-an and Andong region sajok(nobility) as well as various conflict structure. Accordingly, various aspects of Hyangchon(country districts) society of that time, which is operated by being closely connected with the central political situation, were identified in detail. However, in respect that the previous researches intended to analyze the social structure of that time by accepting the consequential fact contained in that diary, there was a lacking point that the characteristic of the history data, a diary, and the individuality of the preparation subject were not explained together. This paper aimed at investigating in which point he existed and how he was positioned there in the political and social structure of that time through his personnel connections network establishment by following the preparation subject, Ryeong Kim’s view and thought, first keeping the historical attribute of diary in mind.
Ryeong Kim’s complex personnel network in 『Gye-am Daily Journal』 repeated extension and reorganization based on tension and compromise, conflict and communication in the stream of time. At that time, various conflicts ceaselessly occurred through the tangling and cross of marriage ties and school ties in Ye-an and the whole surrounding area, accordingly, the intervention of different position of each other occurred. In this situation, Ryeong Kim held on to a relatively neutral position, without being swayed by either side, which is determined that this is the result that his natural personality, who refused conflict and opposition and his position acted, which is more liberal than others in the interested relation of school ties succession with the transference of Gahak through his father.
