근대 동북아해역 해항도시 기반 연구: 랴오둥 반도 잉커우(營口)의 산업을 중심으로 (A Study on the Foundation of Seaport Cities in the Northeast Asian Sea Region: Focused on the Industrial Structure of Yingkou in Modern Times)

초록

본고는 만주 최초의 근대 통상항이었던 잉커우의 산업 분석을 통해, 동북아해역 해항도시 물적 기반의 사례를 발굴하고, 당시 만주 경제에서 잉커우의 위치를 확인함으로써만주를 둘러싼 국제 관계의 변화를 고찰했다.
해당 시기 잉커우의 산업은 배후지인 만주 내륙과 중국 관내 및 일본 등 만주 역외 지역 사이의 여객물류 수송을 담당하는 교통운수업, 대두 등 만주산 원료의 가공을 주로 하는 공업, 만주산 원료와 그 가공품의 국내외 수출 및 역외 지역 상품의 수입 유통을 중심으로 하는 상업무역을 중심으로 구축되었다. 다시 말해 잉커우의 산업은 배후지와 바다를 통해 연결되는 역외 지역이라는 외부의 존재를 근간으로 각 업종 간의 유기성을 견지하며 전개되었다.
잉커우 산업의 기반이 된 외부와의 관계는 산업의 발전과 쇠퇴를 추동하는 양면성을지니고 있었다. 잉커우의 산업은 개항 이후 오랜 기간 중국 관내와의 교역을 중심으로 진행되다가, 청일전쟁 이후 일본과의 교역을 통해 세계 시장과 관계를 맺으며 발전할 수 있었다. 그러나 러일전쟁을 계기로 일본이 다롄과 단둥에 거점을 두고 이들 도시를 중심으로 만주 내 세력 확장을 꾀하면서, 만주 경제 전반에 대한 잉커우의 영향력은 감소하고 역외 지역과의 교역은 중국 관내로 제한되었다. 이와 같은 잉커우 산업의 성쇠는 중국과 영국·러시아·일본 등 제국주의 열강과의 길항 관계, 특히 20세기 전반의 잉커우를 중심으로 하는 중국 세력과 다롄·단둥을 중심으로 하는 일본 세력 간의 경쟁을 반영하고 있으며, 이를 통해 만주에 대한 일본 제국주의 팽창의 과정을 확인할 수 있다.

영어초록

This study identified cases of material foundations of seaport cities in the Northeast Asian Sea Region by analyzing the industrial structure of Yingkou, the first modern trade port in Manchuria, and investigated the changes in international relations surrounding Manchuria by examining the status of Yingkou in the Manchurian economy.
The industrial structure of Yingkou was established based on the communication and transportation for freight and passenger transport connecting the Manchurian inland, which was a hinterland of Yingkou, regions within China and regions outside Manchuria, such as Japan; the processing industry that mainly processed raw materials, such as soybeans, from Manchuria; and the commerce trade that mainly dealt with logistics for exporting and sending out raw materials and their processed products from Manchuria and importing and bringing in goods from other regions. In other words, the Yingkou industry evolved based on the port city’s hinterland and external bodies, such as offshore regions, connected through the sea, with the close relationship between different types of industry maintained.
The relationship with external entities, which was a foundation for the Yingkou industry, drove both the development and decline of the industry. After the opening of the port, the Yingkou industry developed based on the trade among the long-standing existing industries within China. After the Sino-Japanese War, the Yingkou industry grew by making relationships with world markets through the trade with Japan. But after the Russo-Japanese War, Japan took Dalian and Dandong as its bases to expand into Manchuria. Consequently, Yingkou had less influence on the overall Manchurian economy and its trade with offshore regions decreased and the trade was confined to China. As stated above, the ups and downs of the Yingkou industry reflected the rival relationships with imperialistic powers such as Britain, Russia and Japan, especially the competitive relationship between the Chinese force based on Yingkou and the Japanese force based on Dalian and Dandong, in the first half of the 20th century. This shows the process in which the Japanese imperialism expanded into Manchuria.
