김기택 시의 유동성과 반기억 연구 (A study on poetry of Kim Gitaek focusing on his fluidity and memory)

초록

지금까지 연구에서 김기택은 ‘관찰’과 ‘투시’의 시인으로 평가되어 왔다. 주류적인 관심사에서 벗어나있는 동물이나 사회적 약자를 대상으로 다루는 경우가 많다는 이유에서 그의 시선을 특별한 것으로 이해하여왔기 때문이다. 이러한 분석은 김기택 시세계의 특이성은 설명해 줄 수 있을지 몰라도 시인의 창작 의도나 동인은 해명해주지 못한다. 동물이 나타나는 작품이 많다고 하여 ‘동물성’이 드러난다고 인식하는 것은 소재주의적 접근에 머물고 마는 결과이기 때문이다. ‘동물성’은 오히려 ‘동물-되기’와 같은 생성철학의 관점으로 이해의 가능성을 확장해 볼 수 있다.
들뢰즈Gilles Deleuze에 따르자면, 생성철학 즉 ‘되기becoming’의 철학이란 어떠한 대상의 유동적 변모과정에 주목하는 사고체계이다. 고정된 모습을 벗어나 다양체로 변화하는 대상은 더 이상 하나의 기억을 보유하지 않으며 따라서 모든 기억 역시 재편된다. 김기택의 시는 액체적 유동성과 기억의 변모과정에 초점이 맞춰져 있으므로 이러한 시세계를 이해하는 데에는 ‘되기’철학이 효과적으로 보인다. 앞서 언급한 ‘동물성’같은 경우에도 동물 아닌 것의 ‘동물-되기’로 다가가면 공감의 영역을 확보하기가 쉬워진다.
식물이 동물이 되는 과정을 형상화한 작품에서 주목할 만한 사실은 식물이 동물로 되는 것이 아니라 식물과 동물 양자가 모두 변모하여 결국 식물도 동물도 아닌 것이 된다는 점이다. 어느 한쪽으로 귀결되는 것이 아니라 변화하는 과정에 주목하는 시인의 발상은 고체적 고정성을 뛰어넘는 액체적 유동성을 떠오르게 한다. 또한 변모하는 양자는 둘 다 기존의 모습이 바뀌는 것이므로 원래의 기억을 내려놓는 반기억의 과정을 거치게 된다. 이것 역시 한 가지 모습의 존재만을 인정하는 기존의 고정된 사고과정에서 벗어나 열린 사고를 지향하게 한다.
시인이 재현하는 유동성과 반기억의 과정은 고정관념을 탈피할 수 있는 계기를 제공하지만 모든 시가 여기에 수렴되는 것은 아니다. 때로는 기억의 재편 과정에서 인간중심적 사고나 가부장적 사고에 여전히 얽매여 있는 경우도 확인할 수 있다. 그렇지만 또 한편으로는 반기억은 잊고 있었던 현대인의 윤리에 대한 관심을 촉발시키기도 한다. 갑자기 나타나는 한없이 약한 대상의 현현은 시인의 내면에 충격을 가하고 그것은 고스란히 타자를 향한 윤리문제로 이어지는 것이다. 따라서 김기택 시인의 ‘되기’ 철학은 여전히 생성과정에 놓여있으며 다양체로서 변모하고 있다는 사실을 확인할 수 있다.

영어초록

Kim Gitaek has been evaluated as a poet of "observation" and "perspective" in the previous studies. His gaze was considered to be special because he often dealt with the animals and the socially vulnerable that were out of the mainstream interests. This approach may explain the specificity in his choosing the material and theme, but it does not elucidate his intention or agent for creation. For example, the analysis that 'Animality' revealed in his poems because more often than not, animals appeared in many of his poems merely boiled down to the materialist approach. The meaning of 'Animality' is clearly delivered when it is understood in the light of the process philosophy, so to speak, 'Becoming the animal'.
The process philosophy, or the philosophy of 'becoming' is a thinking process focusing on the fluid transformation process of an object which Gilles Deleuze mentioned. Object changing into the manifolds out of the fixed shape no longer contains a memory, leaving the all memories reshaped. Poems of Kim Gitaek focus on the liquid fluidity and the transformed memory. Therefore, the philosophy of 'becoming' seems to be effective to understand this kind of poems. Even in the case of 'Animality' which is a conventional approach, it is a far more appropriate analytical method to approach the 'animal-becoming' of plants, inanimate objects, and human beings.
It is a noteworthy fact that both a plant and an animal are transformed into something that is neither a plant nor an animal, not that a plant becomes an animal, in the poems expressing the process that a plant is transformed into an animal. His idea of the changing process, not of resulting in anything lead to the understanding of the liquid fluidity beyond the solid fixedness. In addition, the changing two are experiencing the process of counter-memory, placing the original memory down, as they are transformed from the previous shapes, which shows the open thought away from the existing fixed thinking process which admits only one form of existence.
The process of fluidity and counter-memory which the poet reproduces provides an opportunity to break away from the fixed idea but all his poems are not converged in this category. Sometimes, in the process of reorganization of memory, his poems are found to be bound with the human-centered or patriarchal thoughts. However, on the other hand, the counter-memory also stimulates the interest in the ethics of the contemporary men who have forgotten. The sudden manifestation of the infinitely weak objects affects the inside of the poet, which leads to an ethical issue toward the others with nothing changed. Accordingly, it is confirmed that his philosophy of 'becoming' is still in the process of being created and being transformed into manifolds. In this sense, the philosophy of 'becoming' is considered to be useful and appropriate for understanding his poems.
