白巖 朴殷植의 고구려사 서술에 대한 비판적 검토 (The Historical Description of Goguryeo by Park Eun-Sik)

In general, the scholarship on Park Eun-sik has evaluated his nationalist historiography positively in the context of historical peculiarities of Japanese colonialisation. This article examines the meaning and limits of Park’s historical writing on Goguryeo in order to place it in a more objective perspective.
Park’s monographs, Myeonglimdapbujeon and Cheongaesomunjeon, historical biographies, take an expatiatory format mainly in the perspective of the enlightenment. This format can be categorised in between historical writings and novel, which shows descriptions diverged from historical facts. Also, following limits can be found: heroism with an emphasis on the spiritual features of history, and modern historiography’s orientation towards objectivity and positivity. However, these features can be regarded a close intimacy with the historical peculiarities which are commonly found in the contem－porary nationalist historiography.
Recently found contents related to the Myeonglimdapbu in Shin’s Daedongyeoksa seem to be written by him in reference to Park’s Myeonlimdapbujeon. Daedongyeoksa directly cites Myeonlimdapbujeon, while some parts are edited with summary. Although there lies dangers to reveal the connection between Park and Shin with single material, it can be said that a great deal of influence from Shin upon Park can be found for now. The discovery of Daedongyeoksa provides an opportunity to review the relationship between the two figures, while recent studies still remains on the contributions on the establishment of modern historiography－a simple succession and development of Shin by Park.
