바타이유의 비정형성 이론에 의한 크라우스의 포스트모더니즘 조각 비평 (Krauss' Critique of Postmodernism Sculptures by Bataille's Formlessness Theory)

초록

바타이유는 초현실주의 운동에 가담했지만, 관념론 미학과 단절하고 유물론을 옹호했다. 그는 자신의 이론을 니체에게서 출발했으며, 뒤르켐과 드 사드의 사상도 수용했다. 또한 그는 변증법적 유물론에 반발하고 저급한 유물론을 주창했다.
바타이유의 이론은 비정형성 개념에서 만개하는데, 그 개념으로써 포스트모더니즘 미술의 정의에 새로운 방향을 제시한 것이다.
크라우스는 이러한 바타이유의 비정형성 이론을 포스트모더니즘 미술에 적용하여 그린버그의 모더니즘과 형식주의 이론의 한계를 극복했다. 그리고 그 대안으로 수평성 개념, 저급한 유물론 개념, 박동 개념, 엔트로피 개념을 제시했다.
결과적으로 크라우스의 포스트모더니즘 조각비평에 있어서 바타이유의 비정형성 개념이 주가 되고 있지만, 그녀는 그것에 만족하지 않았다. 따라서 그녀는 다양한 학자들의 이론도 수렴하여 위의 네 가지 개념으로 정리함으로써 포스트모더니즘 조각의 다양성을 설명하려고 노력하였다.
그녀는 포스트모더니즘 미술이 완료형이 아니라 진행형임을 상기한다. 포스트모던 사회의 제 현상이 상호 복잡하게 뒤엉켜 있으며, 지속적으로 진화하고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 그 조각비평도 과거처럼 단일의 척도로 접근하는 것은 이미 그 한계에 부딪치고 있다고 판단한 것이다.

That G. Bataille defended materialism in order to be separated from the idealistic aesthetics after joining A. Breton's Surrealism movement is the starting point of his theory. The origin of a discord between the two was derived from heterology, and he searched for its answer from F. Nietzsche. The concept was to use for establishing the identity of the people who belong to the border area in society. He also introduced E. Durkheim's element by comparing the supernatural, spiritual life with the worldly one. And he paid attention to the accused share, the other without hope, within the dominant social order, discussing de Sade's use value.
And then Bataille advocated base materialism, reacting against dialectical materialism. It has a dualistic character, which is defined as a waste like spittle.
Bataille's theory is in full bloom in the concept of the informe. From the standpoint of this theory, he rearranged the art history ranging from the prehistoric art to the modern art. In particular, dilating on upon the concept of the informe in Documents that he founded, he suggested a new direction on the definition of the Postmodernism art.
R. Krauss, applied Bataille's theory of the informe to the contemporary art and developed a systematic theory, overcame the limitation of C. Greenberg's Modernism and Formalism. She, escaping from the standpoint of interpreting the surrealistic artworks with S. Freud's theory, used the psychoanalytical understanding of impulse and unconsciousness more and more through Structuralism theory, Bataille's theory, etc. In effect, she became to suggest the concepts of horizontality, base materialism, pulse, and entropy.
In conclusion, in logical development of a big theme, Krauss's critique of Postmodernism sculpture, Bataille's theory of the informe is central. But it is not enough to explain the varieties of Postmodernism sculpture only with his theory, for the expression subject or content in art, especially in sculpture, are also persistently varied more than the past, just as most of the phenomena in the postmodern society are intermingled with each other. If so, to approach with a single measure like the past in case of the critique of Postmodernism sculpture is seen as bumped against a limitation. And so Krauss's attempt to develop her own theory with adding the above three concepts to Bataille's concept is very noteworthy.
