초록

서로 다른 이해의 공간 컨텍스트(context) 아래에서 과연 이해한다는 것, 1930년대 중국철학사 심사에서도 등장했던 陳寅恪 의 '동정적 이해(理解之同情)'는 가능할까? 우리는 과연 대만이라는 일본의 식민지배와 국민당(KMT) 독재 통치하에서 성장한 역사, 문화 그리고 문학 공간에서 '정체성(identity)'을 찾아가려는 그들의 기나긴 노력을 제대로 이해할 수 있을까? 이러한 문제의식에도 불구하고 우리가 할 수 있는 것은 더욱 깊이 더욱 자세히 문제의 본질에 다가가려고 노력하는 것이며 그 과정에서 조금이나마 연구자인 우리의 노력이 한국 사회에서도 대만에대한 진정한 이해를 조금은 돕게 될 것이라고 희망하는 것뿐일지도 모른다. 본 논문은 대만 문학 세계의 가장 중요한 이론적 충돌의 발화지점이라고 할 수 있는 1970년대 '향토문학' 논전 전후 드러나는 독특한 중층적 언어지표와 언어상징 구조를 자세하게 들여다보려고 한다. 특히 '향토문학' 관련 논전이 가지는 1930년대 일본 식민지배와 저항으로서의 탈식민(de-colonization) 그리고 1960~70년대 새롭게 제기된 모더니티 현대주의 문학과 이에 대한 현실주의 리얼리즘의 비판 그리고 이러한 중층적 의의 속에서 포스트 모더니티를 향한 '대만문학'의 가능성을 추적해보려고 한다. 또한 '향토문학논전'의 참여자들이 보여주는 복잡한 관계들의 문학사적 맥락에 주의하면서 대만문학의 일본 식민지배 시기 추구했던 탈식민 전통이 1970년대 '향토문학'과 어떠한 관계를 맺고 향후 '일본 신식민지배'에 대해 어떻게 포스트 현대와 포스트 식민을 향해 나아가는지 등의 문제들에 대해 그 이론적 지형을 확인해 볼 것이다. 이러한 접근을 통해 다른 문학적 상상과 목소리를 가지고 있는 '대만문학'의 정체성은 어디를 향해 가고 있는지를 이해할수 있기를 바라며 또한, 동정적 이해가 조금이나마 가능하기를 바라본다.

영어초록

Is Chen Yin Ke 's idea roughly translated as 'understanding of compassion' appearing in the review report of the first volume of Feng You Lan's History of Chinese Philosophy in the 1930s still valid in different academic or cultural field contexts? Can we rationally, emotionally, or partially understand how important Taiwan's persistent endeavor is to find its own identity in the historical, cultural, and literary sphere that has grown up under the Japanese colonization and the Kuomintang dictatorship for a long time? Despite the awareness of this issue, maybe all we can do is get closer to the essence in a deeper and more detailed approach. In the process, we hope that our efforts and intentions as researchers can help Korean academic society a compassionate understanding of Taiwan identity pursuing and its difficult situation. This thesis attempts to grasp the unique multi-level linguistic indicators and language code structures that emerged before and after the Taiwan Nativist Literature debate in the 1970s. This debate can be the Taiwan literature core discourse struggles expanded to the cultural, social, and political levels and became the fuse of literary theoretical conflict. We should pay attention that the Japanese colonialism and de-colonization discourses in the Taiwan Nativist Literature debate in the 1930s were not only activated realistic criticisms to modernism in the 1960s but even in the literary and historical context of the complicated relationships shown by the participants of the Taiwan Nativist Literature debate in the 1970s. The tradition of de-colonization pursued by Taiwanese literature during the Japanese colonial period in the 1930s and the Taiwan Nativist Literature debate of the 1970s intricate complicate relations the multi-layered interpretative discourse struggles and theoretical conflicts between Taiwanese nationalism, left-wing nationalism, and right-wing nationalism directly affected whether Taiwan corrupted by the neo-colonial rule of the United States and Japan in the 1970s. With this self-reflection, these fierce debates and arguments have conducted a very rigorous test on how Taiwan literature and culture will move towards postmodernity and overcome postcolonialism in the future. Through this comprehensive understanding, surrounding the three main participants, Yeh Shyr-Tau, Chen Yingzhen, and Yu Guangzhong, we will hope that Korean academic circles can also be understanding with compassion the identity of Taiwan Literature, which has a different literary imagination and voice.
