탈북민 문학의 현황과 전망 -『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』을 중심으로- (Current status and prospects of North Korean defectors' literature -Focusing on -)

초록

본 연구는 탈북민 문학 연구에 있어 가장 중요한 키워드는 탈북 문학 속에 담긴 탈북민 의식을 규명하는 것이라는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 본 연구는 총 5권의 『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』지의 실린 작품을 바탕으로 탈북민이 주체가 된 작품 속의 탈북민 의식을 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 분석한 특징은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 망명북한작가 펜 센터와 『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』지의 방향성은 북한의 인권 문제를 주로 소개하고 개선하려는 목적 의식 아래 일관성 있게 창작되어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 둘째, 『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』은 탈북의 경험을 담은 수기와 논픽션 소설, 수필 등 현실에 기반을 둔 장르가 활성화되어 있다. 셋째, <망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학>은 탈북 작가뿐만 아니라 분단 현실과 탈북민에 관심이 많은 한국의 기성 작가들이 탈북문학의 조력자의 역할을 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』에는 창작물뿐만 아니라 다양한 북한문학에 대한 기록과 논문들이 실려 있어 북한문학에 대한 통시적, 공시적 고찰을 가능케 한다. 다섯째, 『망명 북한 작가 PEN 문학』>에 실린 작품들은 다른 단편집이나 문학지에 중복 게재된 것이 많은 것이 특징이다.
본고는 위의 분석 결과를 바탕으로 탈북민 주체의 문학 활동이 나아가야 할 방향성을 모색해 보았다. 우선 탈북민 문학은 탈북민 스스로가 주도하는 문학에서 출발해야 한다. 이제는 탈북의 생체험을 증언하는 내용에서 벗어나 어엿한 남한 사회의 일원으로 뿌리내리는 다양한 스펙트럼을 보여 주는 데서 새로운 탈북민 문학의 가능성을 찾아야 할 것이다. 무엇보다 경계인으로서 남한 사회에 대한 비판적 시선 또한 과감하게 보여주길 기대한다.
결국 탈북민 문학의 성패는 ‘탈북민 스스로가 자신의 자의식을 왜곡됨 없이 밖으로 표출할 수 있는가’에 달려 있다. 앞으로 탈북민 문학은 디아스포라의 보편성과 탈북민의 특수성을 총체적으로 보여 줄 수 있는 전형적 인물형을 형상화하려는 노력을 계속해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This study starts with the awareness of the problem that the most important keyword in the study of North Korean defectors' literature is to clarify the consciousness of North Korean defectors contained in North Korean defectors' literature. This study examined the consciousness of North Korean defectors in the work in which North Korean defectors were the main subjects based on the works published in a total of five <PEN Literature>, an asylum North Korean writer. The characteristics analyzed through this are as follows.
First, it can be seen that the direction of the Asylum North Korean Writers Pen Center and the Asylum North Korean Writers PEN Literature magazine is consistently created under the sense of purpose of introducing and improving North Korea's human rights issues. Second, <PEN Literature>, a North Korean writer of asylum, has a reality-based genre such as handwriting, non-fiction novels, and essays containing the experience of defection. Third, <PEN Literature, an asylum-defecting North Korean writer>, shows that not only North Korean defectors but also established Korean writers who are interested in the reality of division and North Korean defectors play a role as assistants in North Korean defectors' literature. Fourth, <PEN Literature>, an asylum-seeking North Korean writer, contains records and papers on various North Korean literature as well as creations, enabling a synchronic and public review of North Korean literature. Fifth, the works published in <PEN Literature, a writer of asylum North Korea>, are characterized by many overlapping short stories or literary magazines.
Based on the above analysis results, this paper sought the direction in which the North Korean defectors' literary activities should proceed. First of all, North Korean defectors' literature should start with literature led by North Korean defectors themselves. Now, it is necessary to find the possibility of new North Korean defectors' literature by showing various spectra that take root as members of South Korean society, away from the content of testifying to the biological experience of North Korean defectors. Above all, it is expected that he will boldly show his critical view of South Korean society as a guard.
In the end, the success or failure of North Korean defectors' literature depends on whether North Korean defectors themselves can express their self-consciousness to the outside without distorting it. In the future, North Korean refugee literature should continue to make efforts to shape a typical figure that can show the universality of diaspora and the specificity of North Korean defectors as a whole.
