경상좌수영민의 삼중고(三重苦)와 <수영야류>의 형성 배경 (The Triple Pain of the People of Gyeongsang-jwasuyeong and the Background of 's Formation)

초록

이 글에서는 조선후기 경상좌수영 수군들의 고충을 통해 <수영야류>가 형성된배경과 작품 속에 반영된 지역민의 의식을 고찰했다. 조선후기 경상좌수영의 수군은 군인이면서 영내 또는 인근 마을에 거주하는 백성이었다. 이들은 수군으로서, 경상도 수군으로서, 그리고 경상좌수영의 수군으로서 삼중고를 겪고 있었다. 수군에 대한 천시 및 잡역과 요역의 폐해와 함께, 경상도 수군으로서 급대가의 감축으로 인한 고충과 봉산으로 인한 생활고가 여느 도에 비해 심각했다. 또 경상좌수영의 수군으로서 이중 삼중의 첩역에 시달렸고, 왜관과 표류 왜선으로 인해 긴장상태를 유지해야 했다. 한편 <수영야류>의 연행을 주관한 것으로 추정되는 경상좌수영의 향리와 무임은 동계의 핵심 인물로, 백성들에게 세금과 요역을 분배하고직접 수급하는 일을 했다. 이들은 백성들의 고충과 분노를 직접적으로 체감하는위치에 있었으므로, 지배층으로서의 자신들의 입지를 다지고 백성들을 위무할 수있는 장치가 필요했다. <수영야류>는 이러한 정황에서 형성되었다.
<수영야류>의 담당층인 향리와 무임들은 그들의 입지를 유지하기 위해 좌수영민과의 동질감을 도모하고자 했다. 전문 광대패를 불러 지배층을 풍자하고 서민들의 애환을 토로하는 가면극을 공연시켰고, 그것이 여의치 않자 지역의 토착 가면극의 형성을 주관했다. 이 과정에서 그들을 비롯한 지역민의 의식이 반영된 흔적을 양반의 대사와 양반을 잡아먹는 영노, 그리고 사자과장에 부가된 구전에서 찾을 수 있다.
<수영야류>를 주관한 계층은 향리와 무임으로 추정되지만 그들이 직접 연희했다고 단언할 수는 없다. 다만 조선 말기 신분제 폐지와 군대 해산을 겪으며, 외세의 침략과 왕실 존립의 위기 속에서 향리 출신들이 연희에 적극적으로 가담했던것 같다. 이때 <수영야류>는 시대적 위기를 극복하고 지역민의 결집을 위해 활용되었을 것이다.

영어초록

In this article, I reviewed the background of the formation of Suyeongyaryu through the grievances of the Gyeongsang-Jwasuyeong naval forces in the late Joseon Dynasty and the consciousness of the local people reflected in the work.
In the late Joseon Dynasty, the naval forces of Jwasuyeong, Gyeongsang-do, were soldiers and people living in the castle or nearby villages. They were suffering from triple pain as naval forces, as naval forces in Gyeongsang-do, and as naval forces in Jwasuyeong, Gyeongsangdo.
It is estimated that there were disrespect for the naval forces, miscellaneous work, and forced labor and that the hardships caused by the reduction of salaries (money received instead of military service) and the hardships caused by Bongsan (a mountain where pine logging is prohibited to make a warship) were more serious than any other. In addition, as a naval force in Gyeongsang-Jwasuyeong, he suffered from double and triple forced labor, and had to maintain mental tension caused by Waegwan (a government office in Dongnae to trade with the Japanese) and drifting Japanese ship. Meanwhile, Suyeongyaryu's performance was organized by Hyang-ri and a senior military officer in Jwasuyeong, Gyeongsang-do. As key figures in Donggye(village committee), they allocated taxes and services to the people and provided them directly. Since they were in a position to directly feel the grievances and anger of the people, they needed a device to keep their position stable by considering the people. Suyeongyaryu was formed in this situation Hyang-ri and the senior military officer, the people in charge of Suyeong Yaryu, tried to promote a sense of homogeneity with the people of Jwasuyeong in order to maintain their position. They called a professional clown and performed a mask play that satirizes the ruling class and expresses the joys and sorrows of the common people. When it was not feasible, they organized the formation of an indigenous mask play in the region. In this process, the consciousness of the local people, including them, was reflected. The traces can be found in the lines of the yangban, the yeongno that eats the yangban, and the oral tradition added to the lion section.
The class who organized Suyeongyaryu is presumed to be Hyang-ri and the senior military officer, but it is not known whether they played it themselves. However, in the midst of foreign invasion and the crisis of royal existence in the late Joseon Dynasty, the class system was abolished and the army was disbanded. In this situation, people from families of Hyang-ri and the senior military officer would have actively participated in the performance of the play. At this time, Suyeongyaryu would have been used to overcome the crisis of the times and unite local residents.
