임권택 판소리 영화 <천년학>의 매체변환에 따른서술양상과 미의식의 특이성 (Narration aspect by media conversion and Aesthetic consciousness of Im KwonTack’s pansori film ‘Beyond the years’)

초록

본 논문은 임권택의 판소리 영화 계열체의 서술의 특성과 미적 자질을 조명하는 연속적인 과정의 일환으로서 그의 마지막 판소리 영화<천년학>의 매체변환에 따른 서술양상과 미의식의 특이성을 본격적으로 분석, 조명하는데 목적이 있다. 본고는 임권택의 판소리 영화 <천년학>을 열린 창작정신의 현장협업에 따른 이청준과의 ‘공동작’이자 영화<서편제>와 연관 속의 단절의 성격을 띤 ‘연작 판소리영화’로 바라보며 매체변환에 따른 서술양상을 플롯 구성과 스타일 구성을 중심으로분석하였다. 나아가 매체변환된 서술양상을 토대로 생성되고 있는 영화의 미의식의 특이성을 조명하였다. 먼저 영화 <천년학>은 이청준 소설의 판소리적 서사구조 및 액자형식의 특징, 미장아빔(Mise-en-Abyme, 거울구조)의 메타구조를 플롯구성에 반향하고 있다. 또한 이청준 소설의 대화형식의 문답구조와 탐색담의 다중 초점의 특징은 영화 <천년학>에서 삽화 나열식의 시퀀스 구성과 플래시백 장치를 통한 회상형식으로 전환되고, 등장인물 내레이터(narrator)를 통한 중개적, 고백적, 설명적 서술체로 전환되면서 영화의 다(多) 초점의 서술양상으로 발현되고 있다. 한편 본고는 매체변환에 의한 스타일 구성을 임권택의 기존판소리 영화의 스타일의 연장선상에서 조명하였다. 즉 임권택 감독 특유의 평행주의의 영화서술이 반영되고 있는 측면, 유사 플랑 세캉스(plan–sequence)에 의한 소리대목의 서술국면, 디지털 CG(Computer Graphic)를 활용하여 영화의 설정공간인 ‘풍수적 유토피아 공간’으로서의 ‘선학동’을 고도화된 디지털 이미지로 시각화하고 있는 매체융합의서술국면을 살펴보았다. 이러한 서술양상을 토대로 영화 <천년학>이산출하고 있는 미의식을 소리(남도소리)라는 청각성과 동양문화의 표상이라는 시각성의 관점에서 조명하였다. 임권택의 마지막 판소리 영화<천년학>은 판소리의 가장 중요한 음악적 요소인 ‘성음’, 남도소리의총제적인 음조직인 토리 및 기교로서의 시김새 등의 음악적 요소를 횡단하는 청각적 훑기를 통해 남도창(판소리)을 넘어 남도소리의 총체적인 청각적 미적 체험을 유도하고 있으며 포용적이며 적층적 예술로서의 판소리의 세계를 형상화하고 있다는 데 그 미의식의 특이성이 있다.
또한 영화 <천년학>은 원작소설 <선학동 나그네>의 신화적 상상력및 선가적 세계관, 풍수 및 풍류 담론, 장자의 물아일체설, 동양적 경계(境界)담론, 회한과 정한의 표상 등의 다양한 전통문화적 표상 혹은 코드를 자율적으로 번역, 접속하여 리좀적 다양성의 미의식을 산출하고있다는 데 그 특이성이 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the specific aspects of narration and aesthetic consciousness according to media transformation of Im Kwon Taek 's last Pansori film, ‘Beyond the years’. This paper sees Im Kwon-taek's Pansori film ‘Beyond the years’ as a collaborative work with Lee Chung-joon following the on-site collaboration of creative minds. And this paper focuses on the narration aspect by media transformation based on the composition of the plot and the composition of style by looking at it as a sequential pansori film with ‘Sopyonje’.
Furthermore, this paper illuminated the specificity of the aesthetics of film which is based on narration aspect by media conversion. First, the film ‘Beyond the years’ reflects the Pansori narrative structure and the frame-type structure and meta-structure of the narration characteristics of Lee Chung-joon's novel. In addition, the interactive dialogue structure and multi-focal features of Lee Chung- jun's novels are transformed into the composition of a segmented illustration-oriented sequence and flashback recall structure in film ‘Beyond the years’. And it creates the multi-focal point of the film through the presence of intermediary, confessional, explanatory character narrator.
Meanwhile, this paper illuminated the stylistic composition by media conversion on the extension line of Im Kwon -Taek 's existing Pansori films. In other words, this paper looked at the aspect of the film that is reflected in the film character of Im Kwon-taek's unique parallelism, the description phase of the sound track by the plan-sequence, and the phase of visualizing the setting space(Seonhak-dong) of the movie with advanced digital image. Based on these narration aspects, I analyze the aesthetics of the sound traversing the entire ‘Namdo Sori’, which is produced by the film, and the aesthetics of the rhizomic diversity. The last Pansori film ‘Beyond the years’ of Im Kwon Taek traverses the musical elements such as a vocal sound-which is the most important musical element of Pansori, ‘Tori’ which is the general tone of the Namdo's sound, and 'Sigimsae' as a technique. This auditory scan-based crossing leads to a total aural aesthetic experience of the sounds of Namdo Island beyond Pansori. And this characteristic shows that the film ‘Beyond the years’ embodies the world of Pansori as an inclusive and laminated art. This aspect is a characteristic of the first aesthetics of the film ‘Beyond the years’. In addition, the film ‘Beyond the years’ autonomously translates and links the presentations or codes of various traditional cultures of the original novel ‘Seonhak-dong wanderer’. Based on this, The film ‘Beyond the years’ is creating the aesthetic sense of the rhizomic diversity.
