양주 별산대놀이 탈에 표현된 분장 효과와 미적가치 연구 (A Study on the Makeup Effect and Aesthetic Value Expressed in the Yangju Byeolsandaenori Mask)

초록

민족의 오랜 역사를 통해 이어져 온 전통문화로부터 얻은 고유한 이미지는 다른 문화와 구별될 수 있는 가장 완벽한 문화 대중성의 요소이며, 세계적으로 경쟁력 있는 디자인 개발의 초석이라 하겠다. 세계 여러 나라의 다양성 있는 문화와 많은 표현 양식이 존재하는 문화 속에서 우리 전통놀이 문화에 사용 되어진 탈은 우리 민족 고유의 삶의 정서와 가치관을 담고 있는 조형물이라 할 수 있다. 한국의 전통 탈은 우리 민족의 고유한 문화 중 하나로서 정통 미와, 삶의 정서, 사상을 담고 있는 조형적인 형태뿐만이 아니라 전승 문화로서 큰 의미가 있다. 특히, 전통탈의 표정 안에 우리의 문화, 지역적 특색, 색채 등 많은 속성이 내포하고 있으며, 원래의 얼굴과는 다른 인물이나 또는 동물의 초자연적 존재 등을 표현하는 가장성과 위장을 지님과 동시에 각기 다른 민족의 정서와 특색을 담고 있다. 본 연구에서는 양주 별산대놀이 탈에 표현된 색, 형태, 이미지의 분장 효과와 미학의 측면에서 한국 전통 탈을 고찰하여 탈이 가진 미적 가치를 막스 데스와(Max Dessoir)의 원환적 이론을 적용하여, 우아미를 제외한 순수미, 숭고미, 비장미, 골계미, 추를 양주 별산대놀이 탈이 가진 미적가치 알아보았다 양주 별산대놀이 탈에는 우리 고유의 색채인 오방색의 사용이 많았으며, 오간 색과의 조화를 통해 다양한 색채가 표현되어 있으며, 우리 고유의 색감과 등장인물의 성격을 드러나 있는 독특한 형태적인 요소가 전통의 우수성을 보여 주었다. 양주 별산대놀이 탈은 형태나 색채 면에서 조형 감각이 뛰어나게 구성되어 있으며, 한국 전통 탈에 나타난 분장 효과와 미적가치는 극 속의 등장인물의 성격과 내용에 밀접한 관련성이 있고, 우리 민족의 얼굴을 담고 있다. 따라서 다른 지역의 가면극 탈의 분장적 측면과 미적가치를 더욱 연구하여 우리 문화에 맞는 분장 및 미적 정서를 발전시켜야 할 것이다.

영어초록

The unique image obtained from the traditional culture passed down through the nation’s long history is the perfect element of cultural popularity that can be distinguished from other cultures and is also the cornerstone of developing globally competitive design. In modern culture, where diverse cultures and expression styles exist in many countries, the mask used in our traditional play culture can be said to be a sculpture that contains the emotions and values of our people’s unique lives. Korean traditional masks are one of the unique cultures of our people and have great significance not only as a formative form that contains authentic beauty, emotions, and ideas of life but also as a transmitting culture. In particular, it is undoubtedly true that the expression of traditional masks contains many attributes, such as our culture, regional characteristics, and colors. A show is a unique sculpture covering the face with a specific concept, purpose, and use. In addition, it covers the face and acts as a disguise and camouflage to express supernatural beings of people or animals that are different from the original face and, at the same time, contain the emotions and characteristics of other ethnic groups. In this study, we examined Korean traditional masks in terms of the makeup effect and aesthetics of the colors, shapes, and images expressed in the Yangju Byeolsandaenori mask and applied Max Dessoir’s theory to determine the aesthetic value of the Yangju Byeolsandaenori mask, such as pure beauty, sublime beauty, and tragic beauty, and joke beauty except for elegance. In this mask, the Five Positive Colors, our unique colors, are widely used, and other various colors are expressed through harmony with the Five Negative Colors, revealing our unique colors and the characters’ personalities. This mask also shows our unique formative elements, demonstrating the excellence of traditional masks. The Yangju Byeolsandaenori mask has an excellent sense of form and color, and the makeup effect and aesthetic value shown in the traditional Korean mask are closely related to the character and content of the characters in the play and contain the face of our people. Therefore, it is necessary to study further the makeup aspect and aesthetic value of masques in other regions to develop makeup and aesthetic emotions suitable for our culture.
