眞 ․ 善 ․ 美의 書藝美學的 理解 (Aesthetic Understanding on Truth, Goodness and Beauty in Calligraphy)

초록

동양의 철학은 儒家나 道家를 막론하고 모두 ‘天人合一’의 사상에서 출발한다. 동양미학이나 서예미학도 바로 이러한 철학적 기초위에서 수립된 것이다. 유가미학이 동양미학에서 뼈대를 이루는 핵심적 지위를 차지하였다면, 도가미학은 그 혈육이 되었다. 서예미학은 眞 ․ 善 ․ 美의 合一을 강조한다.
眞 ․ 善 ․ 美는 본래 서양현대미학에서 철학의 한 분과로부터 출발한 것이다. 예술은 당연히 美를 말해야 하지만, 동양미학 ․ 서예미학은 眞 ․ 善 ․ 美가 서로 분리될 수 없다. 동양미학 ․ 서예미학은 美를 말하면서 그 美를 眞 ․ 善과 함께 관련지어 거론하는 이유는, 道의 세계이기 때문이다. 따라서 서예는 道의 예술작용을 강조하고 표현하며, 道를 상징하는 무한의 세계라 할 수 있다. 예술에서 情과 景이라는 두 가지 기본요소로 구성된 意象은 동양미학 ․ 서예미학의 핵심을 이룬다. 意象의 최고 형태는 境界인데, 예술가운데 구현된 것은 意境이 된다. 그래서 美가 아닌 道의 境界가 서예뿐 만 아니라, 동양미학 ․ 서예미학의 주제어가 되었다.
예술은 인생경계를 한 단계 끌어올리는 일이다. 즉, 예술경계는 바로 인생경계라 할 수 있다. 최고의 意境은 無言獨化이고, 최고의 書境은 눈으로 봄에 道가 거기에 있는 道境인 것이다. 그리고 최고의 인생경계는 생명의 의미를 깨닫는 道의 세계이다. 따라서 書境, 藝境, 道境, 人境은 동양미학 ․ 서예미학에서 일체화가 되어있다. 그러므로, 인간은 예술을 통하여 무한의 道를, 유한의 藝術로 변화하게 하면서, 또 유한의 書藝를 무한의 道로 변화하게 하는 것이다. 곧 서예미학정신의 비밀이 깃들어 있는 곳이기도 하다. 본고는 바로, 서예라는 이러한 아이콘이 서양미학 ․ 예술학의 정신과 기본적으로 다르게 출발하고 있음을 고찰한 것이다.

영어초록

Wether Confucian or Taoist, thought of unity and harmony of human and nature is the beginning of philosophy in east asia. Aesthetics of east asian is built on the philosophical base above-mentioned. Aesthetics in Confucianism occupied essential position establishing framework of east asian aesthetics, and aesthetics in Taoism became it's fresh and blood. East asian aesthetics and art theory have argued that truth, goodness and beauty are the unified.
Originally, truth, goodness and beauty came from a part of philosophy in western modern aesthetics. Although beauty is placed within the domain of art, truth and goodness are put in the same area as well because truth, goodness and beauty are regarded as one in east asian aesthetics and art theory. The reason that east asian aesthetics has the view of truth, goodness and beauty as one is that beauty belongs to the world of Tao. Therefore, calligraphy in east asia (east asian calligraphy doesn't mean simply beautiful handwriting. It is beyond the beautiful or not.) emphasizes and expresses the artistic effect of Tao, and becomes a part of the world of infinity symbolizing Tao. Sensual awareness/artistic view(意象) composed with two basic elements, mind(情) and the stage-represented-by-mind(景) in art constructs essence of east asian aesthetics. The ultimate state of sensual awareness/artistic view(意象) is stage of unison/harmonizing(境界), and the border where the subjective emotion of an artist meets the objective things/artistic conception(意境) is that stage of unison/harmonizing(境界) is represented in the world of art. For this reason, east asian aesthetics and art theory made stage of unison/harmonizing of Tao, not beauty, become their main theme.
Art means to rise the state of human life. That is, stage of unison/harmonizing in art has same meaning with stage of unison/harmonizing in human life. The supreme sensual awareness/artistic view(意象) is wordless-and-self-transformation(無言獨化), and the supreme spiritual stage of east asian calligraphy(書境) is stage of Tao. And the supreme stage of human(人境) is Tao being aware of fundamentals of life. Thus, the stage of art(藝境), spiritual stage of east asian calligraphy(書境) and stage of Tao(道境) become trinity of east asian aesthetics and art theory. It makes Tao of infiniteness become art of finiteness and inversely, art of finiteness turn Tao of infiniteness. This is the key of spirit of aesthetics on east asian calligraphy.
