노스탤지어의 관광화 －근대 건축물을 중심으로－ (Nostalgia Tourism －Focusing on the Modern Architectures－)

초록

본고는 현재 한국의 ‘레트로 붐’과 근대 건축물 관광화의 관계에 대해 어떠한 논점이 존재하며 이를 어떻게 분석하고 이해할 수 있는지 고찰함에 그 목적을 둔다. 또한 본고는 레트로 붐이 근대 건축물과 그 배경에 있는 제국일본에 대한 인식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 고찰하였다. 근대 건축물은 대여복 유행으로 대표되는 노스탤지어 관광에 있어 중요한 존재로 자리 잡고 있다. 본고는 우선 근대 건축물에 대한 인식의 형성과정과 이를 어떻게 분석할 수 있는지를 고찰하였다. 근대 건축물과 관련해서는 지방자치제 도입과 등록문화재제도 도입 등으로 인한 인식의 변화가 있었음을 지적하였다. 이에 더하여 근대 건축물 활용방법을 타이완의 연구와 비교하였다. 이를 통해 현재 한국에 있어 식민지 조선과 제국일본을 어떻게 보아야 하는가 라는 문제의 고찰방법에 대해 논하였다. 다음으로 최근 수년간의 레트로 붐의 양상을 정리하였다. 더 나아가 근대 건축물과 대여복이 어떻게 노스탤지어 관광을 형성하는지 사물의 에이전시라는 관점에서 분석이 가능하다는 점을 제시하였다. 이어 노스탤지어에 대해 일본의 사례를 중심으로 고찰하면서 한국의 노스탤지어 관광의 문제점을 제기하였다. 경험하지 않은 과거에 대한 집합적인 노스탤지어는 미디어에 의해 재생산되는 특정 이미지에 수렴되어 비시대성이라는 특성을 지닌다. 한국의 경우 식민지 시대의 역사는 부의의 유산이라 향수를 느끼는 대상으로서 집합적으로 공유되는 일은 기본적으로 없고 노스탤지어 관광에는 으레 비판적인 시선이 따른다 할 수 있다. 마지막으로 소비문화인 레트로 붐은 근대 건축물을 둘러싼 노스탤지어 관광을 통해 제국일본에 대한 인식을 바꾸었다고 하기는 어려우나 근대 건축물에 대한 다양한 인식 중 하나임을 지적하였다. 이에 덧붙여 노스탤지어 관광과 연관되어 ‘일본색’이 소비문화가 된 점에 대해서는 다양한 의견이 있는 반면 일본색이 나지 않는 새로운 도시재생의 시도가 있음에 대해 언급하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate what kind of controversy exists about the relationship between retro trends and modern architecture tourism in Korea and to consider what issues exist and how they can be analyzed and understood. Also, this study investigated how the retro trends affected modern architecture and the perception of the Japanese Empire in its background. Modern architecture has become an important being in nostalgia tourism represented by the trend of rental clothing. First, this study looked into the process of forming awareness of modern architecture and how it can be analyzed. Regarding modern architecture, this study pointed out that there was a change in perception brought by the introduction of local government and the registered cultural properties system. In addition, the method of utilizing modern architecture was compared with the research conducted in Taiwan. Through this, this study discussed the question of how to identify the colonial Joseon and the Japanese Empire in Korea today. Next, this paper summarized the aspects of retro trends in recent years. Furthermore, this study presented how modern architecture and rental costumes form nostalgia tourism and presented that analysis is possible from the perspective of being the agency of things. Then, this study considered nostalgia by focusing on the cases of Japan and pointed out the problems of nostalgia tourism in Korea. A collective nostalgia for the past that has not been experienced converges on certain images reproduced by the media and has the property of being out of date. In Korea, the history of the colonial period is a negative legacy, so it is basically not shared collectively as a nostalgic object and there is a critical view of nostalgia tourism. Lastly, the retro trend, a consumer culture, did not change the perception of the Japanese Empire through nostalgia tourism surrounding modern architecture, but it is pointed out that it is one of the various perceptions of modern architecture. In addition, while there are various opinions on the fact that “Japanese color” has become a consumption culture in conjunction with nostalgia tourism, this study mentioned that there is an attempt to regenerate a new city that does not produce Japanese colors.
