초록

Smilax china (S. china) is extensively used in traditional medicine for detoxication, dermatitis, nephrititis, and anticonvalunts. So that, the aims of the current study were to assess the antibacterial activities of S. china on cosmetical grounds using the water and ethanol extract,4 kinds of fractions. Staphylococcus (S.) aureus, S. epidermidis and Propionibacterium (P.) acnes were cultured in aerobic and anaerobic condition and the antibacterial activities were observed by paper disc diffusion methode. In the result, S. china water extract formed smaller clean zone in S. aureus than the positive control gentamycin (GM), but no antibacterial activities against S. epidermidis and P.
acnes. Ethanol extract formed smaller clean zone in S. aureus and S. epidermidis than GM, which were weak, while the clean zone in P.
acnes was 19.0 mm in 150 μL/mL that is higher than 13.5 mm in 30 μL/mL clindamycin (CLM), showing a very excellent antibacterial activities. Also the excellent antibacterial activities have been verified as in concentration of 150 μL/mL ehtylacetate fraction formed 25.0mm size clean zone in P. acnes that was higher than 13.5 mm clean zone in 30 μL/mL CLM. And hexane, chloroform and butanol fraction revealed a weak or no antibacterial activities against S. aureus, S. epidermidis and P. acnes. It is considered that S. china ethanol extract and ethylacetate fraction have a high potentiality as a natural cosmetic material.
