초록

본 연구는 세종 26년(1444), 황해도 재령군 사람 문공치의 환상과 그 처형사건을 중심으로 환상에 나타난 반역성과 역사성, 그리고 정치성을 분석했다. 이 글은 환상이 현실과 동떨어진 별개의 세계가 아니라 현실의 이면을 반영하고 이를 초월하려는 욕망을 내포하고 있다는 리얼리즘 문학 연구의 기본전제에서 출발한다. 하지만 이 전제를 반복, 확인하기보다 환상에 내재한 반역성을 분석하고, 이를 둘러싼 역사적 쟁투와 그 정치적 역량을 밝힘으로써 환상의 역사성과 정치성을 부각시키고자 했다. 문공치 환상의 반역성은 당대 현실을 맹렬하게 비판하고, 조선 왕실이 독점하고자 했던 천(天)을 전유했다는 점에서 잘 드러난다. 이 현실비판은 여말선초 풍수·도참 담론에 근거하며, 여기에는 황해도 일대에 분포된 단군 성지의 자부심이 내재해 있다. 아울러 환상으로부터 이야기 공동체의 형성, 여론의 확산, 상소라는 정치 행위가 형성되었고, 환상이 공동체의 신체에 새겨넣은 감각이 17-18세기 황해도 일대에 속출했던 반역사건과 직결되고 있음을 밝혔다. 본 연구를 기반으로 고려시대 기이담론의 변이양상을 추적하고, 민의 동향을 탐색하는 제반 연구의 확장을 도모할 수 있으리라 기대한다.

영어초록

This study analyzes the treasonable, historical and political nature contained in fantasies, with focus on the Fantasy of Mun Gongchi, which appeared in his execution in Jaeryeong-gun, Hwanghae-do in 1444(the 26th year of King Sejong.) The argument of this study starts from the basic premise taken by the researches in realist literature that fantasies are not an alien world separated from the reality but rather reflects the other side of the reality and embraces the desire to transcend the reality. Rather than repeating and confirming the premise, however, this study analyzes the treasonable nature internalized in fantasies, and reveal the historical and political natures in fantasies by illuminating their surrounding historical battles, and political power. The treasonable nature of Mun Gongchi's fantasies is demonstrated in the fact that he appropriated the Heaven, which the royal family of Joseon tried to monopolize, and through this process, criticized the reality harshly. His criticism of the reality is based on the discourses of the Feng Shui(風水) and the Omen of Signs(圖讖) which prevailed at the end of the Goryo Dynasty and early Joseon Dynasty. Inherent in these discourses is the pride on the sacred places of Dangun scattered around Hwanghae-do. This study explains how fantasies contributed to the formation of story communities, expansion of public opinion and the political activity of appealing to the king in documents. Furthermore, it shows that the senses the fantasies engraved into the community's body is directly related with the treasonable events occurring throughout Hwanghae-do in the 17th to 18th Century. Analysing the Mun Gongchi’s fantasies, this study examines how the discourses of ki-yi(奇異) during the Goryo Dynasty took on different meanings in the following Joseon Dynasty. In addition, this study is significant in that it has secured the new study field of fantasy in the exploration of the trends among the people, presenting the methodology for multiple viewing the field.
