초록

21세기 초인 2000년 63명의 비전향 장기수가 북송되었다. 그러나 이 문제는 오늘날까지도 미완의 문제로 남아 있다. 이 분야에 대한 연구는 중요성에도 불구하고, 연구가 매우 부족한 연구 소외 분야이다. 기독교의 연구나 사역도 부진하다. 고영근 목사는 20세기 말에 비전향 장기수 후원사업을 본격화했다. 따라서 그의 사역은 주목할 만하다.
본 논문은 고영근의 비전향 장기수 후원사업을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 삼는데, 특히 비전향 장기수의 서간문을 중심으로 한다. 그의 사역은 다음과 같은 복잡한 구조를 이루고 있다. 첫째, 세 가지 차원이 있는데, 정치적, 사회적, 종교적 차원으로, 핵심 개념은 전향·인권·회심이다. 이런 차원이 비전향 장기수 문제의 거시적, 중간적, 미시적 맥락을 구성한다. 둘째, 세 가지 측면이 있다. 체제, 정부(정권), 기독교이고, 핵심 개념은 반공주의, 반정부운동(민주화운동 및 통일운동), 교정선교이다. 셋째, 세 가지 행위자가 있는데, 남한 정부, 비전향 장기수, 고영근이다.
고영근의 비전향 장기수 사역을 비롯한 기독교 비전향 장기수 사역은 전향 담론과 회심 담론에서는 한계가 있었지만, 인권 담론에서는 긍정적인 기여를 했다. 이 사역은 기독교의 사랑의 구체적인 실천을 넘어서서, 기독교 선교론을 확장했다. 따라서 고영근의 비전향 장기수 사역은 당시 역사적 맥락을 고려할 때, 긍정적으로 평가할 수 있다.

영어초록

The year of 2000, the first year of the new millennium, occasioned the repatriation to the north of the sixty-three unconverted long-term prisoners who had expressed their intentions. The issue, however, has been left unsettled up to now. Although the topic deserves urgent scholarly attention, it in effect has been poorly researched, including in Christian scholars’ circles. Since Christian mission to them was barely done, the Rev. Go Yeong Geun’s ministry to help them in the last years of the last century can be said to be exceptional.
This study aims to investigate the Rev. Go’s ministry to help the unconverted long-term prisoners, focusing on the letters between the Rev. Go and them. The ministry has three dimensions as follows. First, there are three different contexts in which the ministry was carried out: political(macro context), social(meso context), and religious(micro context), the key concepts of which are political conversion, human rights, and religious conversion, respectively. Second, there are also three different aspects, which are ideological system, government(administration), and Christianity, the key concepts of which are anti-Communism, anti-government movement(Democritization movement and Unification movement), and mission to prisoners, respectively. Third, there are three different agents, that is, South Korean government, unconverted long-term prisoners, and the Rev. Go.
Among the paradigms of the Christian mission to prisoners, in particular that of the Rev. Go, those of political conversion and religious conversion exposed their limitations, while that of human rights achived relative success. As a result, this paradigm extended the scope of the Christian mission to prisoners and even widened the concept of missiology. Therefore, considering the political-sensitive situation at the time when he worked, the Rev. Go’s ministry can be said to be a breakthrough work in the area concerned.
