    초록

    One of the most common things in museums, including science museums, is exhibits and exhibit labels (panels). The budget for exhibit labels is roughly 10% of the total budget for creating and installing exhibits. Even in the same museum, it is easy to find many different types and configurations of exhibit panels. One of the main reasons is that we don't know exactly what factors are necessary for exhibit panels. This study aimed to identify evaluation factors that can be used by anyone and can be used in all stages of planning, installation, and exhibition. First, appropriate evaluation factors were identified for evaluating science exhibit panels. Second, evaluation factors were verified, third, appropriated evaluation factors were to be verified and confirmed. A survey was conducted with 70 finalized factors after a population test. After the survey, all factors were compared to each other to verify their significance. The criteria for selecting the best factors were 18 factors that showed significant differences (0.05>P) from the bottom 25% in the 95% confidence level. Fifteen science exhibit panels from the National Science Museum in Korea were selected and evaluated to validate the initially selected factors. The final selected factors were only those with more than 3 excellent and 3 inadequate panels with significant differences at the 95% confidence level (0.05>p). The 13 factors selected were: 1) visibility of title, 2) intuitiveness and implication of title, 3) clarity of topic/purpose, 4) readability of content, 5) intuitiveness of content, 6) congruence of content with exhibit, 7) connection of content with topic/title, 8) easy explanation/understanding of content, 9) overall visibility (including design), 10) overall communicability, 11) curiosity, 12) realism (including case-based), and 13) overall immersion. The 15 exhibition panels were evaluated by 13 factors, and the excellent and deficient panels were classified and characterized. The characteristics of the 13 factors can be used as a reference for evaluation or provide direction on how to improve the panel.
