‘비-동일성’의 민중을 기입하는 글쓰기— 박태순의 르포와 기행문을 중심으로 — (Writing to Fill up People of ‘non-Uniformity’— Focusing on Park Tae-sun's Reportage and Travel Statements —)

초록

본 연구의 대상은 민중문학의 시대라 할 수 있는 1970-80년대 ‘민중이 주인되는 세상’ 을 위해 ‘문학은 무엇을 할 것인가’를 치열하게 고민했던, 박태순의 산문적 글쓰기 작업이다. 박태순은 70-80년대 한반도 곳곳을 누비며, ‘비문학’이라 규정되었던 르포와 기행문을통해 당대의 은폐된 사건과 민중의 비담(秘談)을 기록하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 ‘민중과문학’에 대한 박태순의 사유가 녹아있는 산문을 중심으로, ‘민중의 재현’이라는 과제를 수행함에 있어서 민중문학의 지배적인 흐름과는 다른 길을 걸었던 그의 문학 여정을 조명하고자 했다.
70년대 초에 일어난 두 사건을 통해 박태순은 ‘민중’을 발견하게 되는데, 하나는 전태일의 분신이며, 다른 하나는 광주대단지 사건이다. 그는 사건의 현장을 취재하고, 인터뷰한 결과를 각각 「소신의 경고」와 「광주단지 4박5일」이라는 르포에 담아낸다. 중요한 것은박태순이 선택한 글의 형식이 르포였다는 사실이다. 은폐된 진실이 문학적 상상력을 압도하는 사건 앞에서 박태순은 문학과 비문학의 경계에 대해 회의하며, 문학은 언어로 기입하지 않으면 사라질 민중의 삶, 그 현장의 진실을 전달하는 글쓰기여야 한다고 주장한다.
이후 박태순은 ‘진실’을 발견하기 위해 한반도 기행을 떠난다. 그리고 그가 길 위에서보고 들은 것들을 묶어 작가 기행과 국토와 민중 두 편의 산문집을 펴낸다. 결과적으로 두 편의 산문집에는 국가권력과 공적담론에 의해 지원진 국토와 민중의 비담이 아카이빙되어 있으며, 특히 ‘노동자’라는 특권적 주체에 의해 삭제되었던 민중의 다기한 삶과 꿈이 잔존한다. 이런 점에서 1970-80년대 박태순의 문학 여정은 ‘노동자’의 동일성에 포섭되지 않는, ‘민중’의 통일체가 비전체임을 증명하는 복수의 주체들을 찾는 여정이었다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The subject of this study is the prosaic writing work of Park Tae-sun, who was keenly concerned about ‘what literature would do’ for the ‘world where people are masters’ in the 1970s and 1980s, the era of Popular Literature.
Park Tae-sun travels all over the Korean Peninsula, recording the incidents and people's secret stories concealed through reportage and travel statements that were defined as ‘nonfiction’. This paper, focusing on the prose in which Park Tae-sun's thoughts on 'people and literature' are melt, attempts to illuminate the literary journey when he walked a path different from the dominant flow of Popular Literature while he carries out the task of 'reproduction of people'.
As Park Tae-sun found ‘people’ in two events in the early 1970’s, one is Jeon Tae-il’s self‐burning to death and the other is the Gwangju Great Danji incident. The results of his collecting data from the scene of the incident and interviewing the people in his reportage, were put as "Warning from Conviction" and "Gwangju Danji 4 Nights 5 Days," respectively. Importantly, the format of writing that Park Tae-sun chose was the format of the reportage. In the face of incidents in which the hidden truth overwhelmed the literary imagination, Park Tae-sun questioned the boundary between literature and nonfiction, and argued that literature should be writing that conveys the truth of the field, the lives of people that would disappear if they were not written in language.
Park Tae-sun then traveled to the Korean peninsula to discover the ‘truth’.
And he binds what he sees and hears on the road to publish two prosecollections such as “Writer's Journey” and “Land and People”. As a result, these two prose collections contain the secret stories of the land and people that have been erased by state power and public discourse in an archive form, and in particular, the diverse lives and dreams of people, who have been deleted by the privileged subject of “workers”, residually remain. In this sense, Park Tae-sun's literary journey in the 1970s and 1980s was a journey to find a plurality of subjects who proved that the unity of people is non‐All, not subsumed by the identity of the ‘workers’.
