본 논문은 『선화화보』 10문과 그 순서의 철학적 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 『선화화보』에서 당시 궁궐에 소장된 작품을 분류하기 위해 제시된 10문에는 세 가지의 의미가 함축되어 있다. 첫째로, 10문은 송에 성행하였던 그림의 종류를 총칭한다. 둘째로, 10문의 순서는 임의적으로 구성된 것이 아니라, 역사적으로 생성되어 발전한 화과를 시대적으로 나열한 것이다. 셋째로, 10문의 순서는 우주 만물 창조의 과정을 수직적으로 도식화한 것이다. 본 논문의 핵심은 세 번째 의미를 밝히는 데 있는데, 10문의 구조가 우주 만물이 발생하는 우주론 체계의 기본 내용을 간단하고 핵심적으로 반영한 주렴계의 『태극도서』와 유사성을 갖고 있다는 데에서 착안되었다. 『태극도서』의 우주 발전 도식은 태극–음양–오행–만물로 이어진다. 『선화화보』의 10문 중 첫 번째인 도석문은 도의 작용을 상징하고, 그 다음 인물문, 궁실문, 번축문, 용어문을 거쳐 산수문, 축수문, 화조문에 이르는 것은 만물화생, 즉 무에서 유로 전개되는 자연의 변화무쌍한 세계를 반영한다. 그리고 묵죽문과 소과문은 성인이 되는 수양 방식으로, 묵죽문은 도덕적 실천과 관련이 있는 반면에, 소과문은 공자의 제자 안연의 자연적 삶에서의 즐거움과 관련을 맺고 있다. 결론적으로, 『선화화보』의 10문은 북송 시대의 그림 현상을 이해하는 틀일 뿐만 아니라, 우주와 자연, 인간에 대해 철학적으로 인식할 수 있게 하는 회화적 도식이다.

영어초록

This thesis is to clarify the philosophical meaning of the ten types of paintings and it’s order in 『Xuan Huo Hua Pu』. In 『Xuan Huo Hua Pu』, three meanings are implied in the 10 types of paintings presented to classify the works owned by the palace at the time. First, the ten types of paintings collectively refer to the types of paintings that were prevalent in the Northern Song Dynasty. Second, the order of the ten types of pictures is not arbitrarily arranged, but rather a list of historically created and developed picture forms in order. Third, the sequence of ten pictures is a vertical diagram of the process of creation of all things in the universe. The core of this paper is to reveal the third meaning. It was conceived from the fact that the structure of the ten types of pictures has similarities with Zhou dun yi's 『Tai Ji Tu Shuo』, which simply and essentially reflected the basic contents of the cosmological system in which everything in the universe occurs. The universe development scheme of 『Tai Ji Tu Shuo』 leads to Taiji-Yin and Yang-Five Elements-All Things. Among the ten types of paintings in 『Xuan Huo Hua Pu』, the first type of painting related to Buddhism and Taoism symbolizes the action of Tao. Then there are the painting styles related to people and portraits, the painting styles related to palaces and buildings, the painting styles related to the life and culture of foreign peoples, the painting styles related to dragons and fish, painting styles related to animals, and the painting styles depicting flowers and birds. It reflects the ever-changing world of nature in which all things are created and changed. And the painting style with bamboo ink and the painting style with vegetables and fruits is a method of cultivation to become a saint. While the painting form of bamboo ink is related to moral practice, the form of painting of vegetables and fruits is related to the enjoyment in the natural life of Confucius disciple Yan Yuan. In conclusion, the ten types of paintings in 『Xuan Huo Hua Pu』 are not only a framework for understanding the painting phenomenon of the Northern Song Dynasty, but also a pictorial scheme that enables philosophical awareness of the universe, nature, and human beings.
