일본어 수동문의 동작주와 주어의 생략에 대하여 (A study on the omission of the subject and the agent in passive sentences in Japanese)

초록

本稿は受動文における主語と動作主の問題をその省略という観点から調べてみたものである受動文の動作主と主語の明示の場合の研究は多様な角度から研究されているが、その大部分を占めている省略の用法に関する研究がより綿密に行われるべきだという点に着目し、下位分類の項目を追加して主に数量的な面から調べてみた。 動作主省略の受動文の特徴は、先ず主語が無生の場合が51%で少し高い数量を占めており、有生の場合も49％を占めている点である。従来の研究で、無生の場合が殆んどであるという説と相反する結果を見せている。下位項目においては「以前行われた談話から聴者が動作主や動作主に関する情報を得て知っていると判断される時」が最も多かった。 また、主語省略の場合、特定人の場合(149例)が圧倒的に多く、非特定人(25例)の約6倍に当たる数値を見せている。これは文脈上、言及しなくても解る、即ち旧情報に属するので省略した場合である。非特定人の場合、一般的な状況の説明が多いので省略が自然になるが、特定人の場合は、既知の場合が多いので省略が多数発生するのではないかと思われる。 日本語の場合、文は現象を叙述する述語だけでも充分表現できるという、事実上主語の設定が不必要となる場合が多くなる現象が受動文にも反映されたように思われる。 そして今回の調査により、動作主と主語の省略は文論に止まる問題ではなく、文脈という談話論(文章論)の立場からの論議をも必要とする問題ではないかということが分かった。本稿ではどのような場合により多く省略が起こるかを数量的な結果として提示できたということと動作主省略の下位分類項目をより細分化したことにその意義があると言える。 大多数の受動文は主語が現われなかったり、動作主がなかったり、両方が欠落し受動表現だけの形でさえ現われたりする点は注目する必要があるが、本稿では受動表現だけで現われる場合は除外された。これは今後の課題として残る。

영어초록

This paper examines the omission of the subject and the agent in a passive sentence. For the omission occurs in almost every passive sentence and more detailed researches are required in this field, the date was classified in sub-categories and collected mainly in a quantitative way.
One of the features of the agent omission in the passive sentence is that inanimate subject is slightly more frequently omitted than animate subject (51 percent compared to 49 percent). This result is contradictory to the previous assumption that the primarily omitted subjects would be inanimate ones. The most frequent case is when the listener is regarded to know about the agent by the previous discourse.
In the case of subject omitting, a particular person was overwhelmingly frequently omitted(149 cases), which is about six times more than non-specific person(25 cases). This is because the listener contextually apprehend who the particular person is. While the subject omission naturally occurs in the case of a non-specific person since there are a lot of general explanation of the situation is given, it seems that the particular person frequently omitted owing to the listener's prior knowledge. As a matter of fact, Japanese sentences can be expressed without explicitly presenting the subject in many cases. It seems that this property is also reflected in a passive sentence. This paper presents that the omission of the agent and the subject needs to be discussed not only in the field of syntax, but also in the field of discourse theory.
The significance of this paper is that it shows how frequently subject omission occurs by quantitative results in each case, and that the results are classified in sub-categories which are comparatively more subdivided than in the conventional standard.
The paper doesn't cover the cases where both of the agent and the subject are omitted. Those cases remain as a future challenge.
