연기인문육의법(緣起因門六義法)의 형성과 전개 (How the theory of six meanings about cause of conditioned arising was formed and developed in China)

초록

이 글은 초기중국화엄교학에서 연기인문육의법을 중심으로 한 연기 이해방식의 형성과 전개과정을 고찰하여 사상사적 의미를 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지엄은 직접적으로는 유식학의 종자육의설을 차용하여 이 교설을 구체화하였다. 이 독창적인 연기론은 법장에 의해 더욱 섬세한 논의가 추가되어 이후 동아시아 화엄교학의 여러 사상가들에게 수용된다. 다만 내용적으로는 지엄의 논의를 크게 벗어나는 전개는 없는 것으로 보인다.
연기인문육의법은 연기론과 관련해 유식학과 화엄학 사이의 이론적 교섭을 직접적으로 보여주는 구체적 사례로서 특히 주목된다. 연기인문육의법은 초기중국화엄교학의 연기론이 유식학의 종자육의설을 차용하면서도 동시에 그에 대한 독자적인 해석을 시도함으로써 유식사상의 화엄 연기론적 전환을 보여주는 것으로 판단되기 때문이다. 한편 지엄이 의미상의 차이에도 불구하고 종자육의설과 인의 육의를 대응시킨 것은 종자가 갖는 인으로서의 의미와 그 내용에 주목했기 때문일 것이다.
아울러 연기인문육의법은 동아시아에서 연기에 대한 이처럼 논리적이고 분석적인 논의가 흔치 않다는 점에서도 주목된다. 동시에 법계연기론을 특징으로 하는 화엄교학의 연기론은 일견 매우 관념적이고 이론적인 논의로 이해되기 쉽다. 그러나 인의 세계에 대한 관심과 논의는 화엄교학 역시 불교의 실천론적 특징에서 벗어나 있지 않음을 확인시켜준다.

영어초록

This paper aims to confirm the philosophical meaning which the course to understand the conditioned arising(緣起) with the theory of six meanings about cause of conditioned arising(緣起因門六義法), which explains six meanings of direct cause of conditioned arising, in the early Hua-Yen School of China includes. Zhi-yan explains in the concrete the theory of six meanings about cause of conditioned arising(緣起因門六義法) with the theory of six characteristics of the seed of the Vijñānavāda School. His unique theory is succeeded to Fa-zang, and become to be more delicate. After that, although the theory is accepted by many thinkers of Hua-Yen School, it seems not to overcome Zhi-yan's theory.
The theory of six meanings about cause of conditioned arising(緣起因門六義法) is attentioned especially as the case which let us know directly a theoretical relation with the doctrine of conditioned arising between the Vijñānavāda School and the Hua-Yen School. Because it shows that the theory of six characteristics of the seed of the Vijñānavāda School is transformed into the theory of conditioned arising of the Hua-Yen School with that the doctrine of conditioned arising of the early Hua-Yen School of China not only adopts the theory of six characteristics of the seed of the Vijñānavāda School, but also tries to interpret it with its own idea. Besides, Zhi-yan probably let six characteristics of the seed correspond with six meanings of cause of conditioned arising because of noticing the meaning as a cause which the seed has, though two theories are not the same on the meaning.
There is rarely an logical and analytic argument for conditioned arising in East Asia Buddhism, therefore, the theory of six meanings about cause of conditioned arising(緣起因門六義法) is unique. At the same time, the theory of conditioned arising of the Hua-Yen School, which has a character of conditioned arising of dharma-dhātu, seems to be understand just like ideological and theoretical doctrine. It is, however, clearly known that Hua-Yen School has also practical character, because it focus on a region of cause of conditioned arising.
