태조·세종시기 한양도성 천자문 각자성석에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Thousand-Chinese Characters Inscription Stone of The Seoul City Wa l l during the King of Ta eJo & SeJong Period)

초록

한양도성에는 600척씩 한 자 천자문 구간 97개의 천자문 각자성석 중 15개(89 번째 천자문. 위자位字 제외) 천자문 각자성석이 현존하는 것으로 알려져 왔으 나, 수차례의 현장조사를 통해서 천자문 각자성석 44개를 추가로 발견하였다. 2020년 12월 현재 한양도성에는 97개의 천자문 각자성석 중 58개의 천자문 각자 성석이 현존하는 것으로 확인하였다. 본 연구는 현장조사를 통해 58개의 천자문 각자성석의 실체를 확인하였으며, 그 위치를 분석하여 나머지 39개 천자문 각자 성석의 위치를 추정하였다.
본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 천자문의 순서에 따라 97개로 구획된 600척의 축성구간은 암벽은 태조 시기 처음 조축당시 오도백성들이 5만8천200척을 분담하여 600척 천자문 97개 구간으로 나누어 조축하였다. 8개의 성문, 오간수문, 이간수문 등 천변과 만곡된 부분 등도 정확하게 적용되었다. 이때에는 암반구간은 천자문 600척 구간에서 제 외하였다. 세종대 수축과 수리를 통하여 완성된 한양도성의 전체 길이는 5만 9천 500척이다. 600척씩 97개 구간으로 이 경우 길이는 5만 8천 200척으로 1천 300척 의 차이가 있다. 이는 인왕구역의 암반뿐 아니라 백악구간의 암반 구간등도 천자 문 600척 구간에서 태조시기에는 포함하지 아니하였으나 세종시기에는 암반구간 도 천자문 600척 구간에 포함한 결과로 보인다.
둘째, 천자문 각자성석은 기본적으로 2가지 종류가 있다. 성자(成字), 세자(歲 字) 등과 같이 천자문 한 자호만 있는 것과 일말육백척(日末六百尺), 진자육백척 (辰字六百尺), 장자말육백척(藏字末六百尺), 강자육백척(崗字六百尺), 검자육백 척(劍字六百尺), 영말측자육백척(盈末仄字六百尺), 거자종궐자육백척(巨字終闕 字六百尺), 제말조자육백척(帝末鳥字六百尺)과 같이 앞뒤 천자문 두 개 또는 600 척 또는 주자종칭자(珠字終稱字), 칭자종야자(稱字終夜字), 광자종과자(光字終 果字), 진말숙자시(辰末宿字始), 인자말황자시(人字末皇字始), 장말한시(張末寒 始), 한말/내자시(寒末/來字始), 여자말(呂字末), 야자종(夜字從), 열말(列末), 제말(制末)과 같이 시(始)·종(終)을 붙인 것으로 천자문 구간의 그 시작과 끝을 알 수 있는 것이다. 천자문 자호 하나로 표기된 천자문 각자성석은 대부분 그 천 자문의 600척 끝 구간에서 발견된다. 이를 다시 세분화 하면 천자문 자호(~字) 에 처음(始)과 끝(終/末)을 붙여 그 시종(始終)을 붙여 알 수 있게 하는 것( 천자 문 자호(~字)에 六百尺을 붙여 그 시종(始終)을 알 수 있게 하는 것과 여기에 ‘시 종(始終) 또는 육백척(六百尺)’이 없이 천자문 자호만 있는 것(성자成字, 세자歲 字, 위자位字, 의衣, 상裳)을 포함하면 크게 3가지 종류이다. 여기에 시종(말)始 終(末)중 그 하나만 붙이거나 600척을 천자문 자호의 시작과 끝을 구분한다면 5 가지로 세분화할 수 있다.
셋째, 현존하는 58개의 천자문 각자성석을 통해 한양도성의 8개의 성문은 물 론 남소문지 등에 대하여도 천자문 각자성석의 위치를 추론하거나 추정할 수 있 는 계기가 마련됨으로써 현존하는 6개의 성문은 물론 멸실되었거나 그 위치가 이 동된 혜화문, 광희문, 남소문지, 소의문과 돈의문지에 대해서도 한양도성 조축 당시 천자문 각자성석의 위치를 추론할 수 있었다. 한양도성 축성당시 97개 천자 문 자호 각자중 60%인 58개를 확보하고 그 위치를 비정하였다. 600년 층위를 통 하여 어떻게 변화되고 관리되었지에 대한 실증적 연구토대가 될 수 있도록 하되, 새롭게 찾은 천자문 자호 각자에 대하여는 향후 더 많은 연구가 수반되어 판독과 새로운 천자문 자호 각자의 심도 있는 연구를 기대해 본다.

영어초록

It used to be known that 15 (except for 89th the Thousand-Chiness character, Ouija位 字) Thousand-Chinese Characters inscription stones, among the 97 Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones section with each character being 600 “Cheok”, had been ex- isted at the stone of the Seoul city wall, 44 more Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones have been discovered through several field surveys. As the time of December 2020, 58 Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones have been confirmed to exist among the 97 Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones. This study confirmed its existence of 58 Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones through field investigation, and the location was analyzed and the locations of the remaining 39 Thousand-Chiness characters inscription stones were estimated.
The conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, The rock walls of 600 Cheok fortification sections which are divided into 97 ac- cording to the order of the Thousand-Chiness characters were built by the Odo people(五 道 百姓) by sharing 58,200 Cheok into the 97 sections with each character being 600 Cheok Thousand-Chinese Characters at the time of the first construction during the Taejo period.
Eight City Wall gates, Ogansu-gate(五間水門), Igansu-gate(二間水門), etc. were also accurately applied. At this time, the rock section was excluded from the section of 600 Cheok Thousand-Chinese Characters section. The total length of The Seoul City Wall, completed through the contraction and repair of Sejong University, is 59,500 Cheok. There are 97 sections each with 600 Cheok, in this case the length is 58,200 Cheok, and there is a difference of 1,300 Cheok. It seems to be the result of including the rock mass of the Inwang area(仁王구간) in the 600 Cheok Thousand-Chinese Characters section during the Sejon period, despite the rock mass of the Inwang area(仁王구간) as well as the rock mass of the Baekak area(白岳구간) section were excluded in the 600 Cheok Thou- sand-Chinese Characters section during the Taejo period.
Second, basically there are two kinds of The Thousand-Chinese Characters Inscription Stones. There are the things like Seongja(成字), Seja(歲字) and etc, which are only having one Thousand-Chinese Character. And There also are things like Ilmalyukbaekcheok(日 末六百尺), Jinjayukbaekcheok(辰字六百尺), Jangjamalyukbaegcheok(藏字末六 百尺), Gangjayukbaekcheok(崗字六百尺), Geomjayukbaekcheok(劍字六百尺), Yeongmalcheukjayukbaekcheok(盈末仄字六百尺), Geojajonggwoljayukbaekcheok(巨 字終闕字六百尺), Jemaljojayukbaekcheok(帝末鳥字六百尺) which have two front and back Thousand-Chinese Characters or 600 Cheok. Or There are things like Jujajongchingja(珠字終稱字), Chingjajongyaja(稱字終夜字), Gwangjajonggwaja(光 字終果字), Jinmalsugjasi(辰末宿字始), Injamalhwangjasi(人字末皇字始), Jangmalhansi(張末寒始), Hanmal/Naejasi(寒末/來字始), Yeojamal(呂字末), Yajajong(夜字從), Yeolmal(列末), Jemal(制末) which can be known by adding Si(始, meaning is beginning)·Jeong(終, meaning is ending) at the beginning and end of the Thousand-Chinese Characters section. Most of The Thousand-Chinese Characters In- scription Stone, marked with a single Thousand-Chinese character, are found at the end of 600 Cheok of the Thousand-Chinese characters. If these are subdivided again, the begin- ning (始) and the ending (終/末) are added to the letter of the Thousand-Chinese charac- ter(~字) so that the beginning and ending (始終) can be known (Things to add 六百尺 to the letter of the Thousand-Chinese character (~字) so that the beginning of the year can be known), and there are three main types including those with only a Thousand-Chinese character (Sungja 成字, Seja 歲字, Ouija 位字, Ui衣, Sang 裳) without ‘Si_Jeong (始終) or Yukbaekcheok (六百尺)’. Here, if you attach only one of the beginnings(words) or 始終 (末), or if 600 Cheok to separate the beginning and end of the Thousand-Chinese charac- ter, they can be subdivide it into 5 types.
Third, the existing 58 Thousand-Chinese characters Inscription Stones provided an op- portunity to infer or estimate the location of the Thousand-Chinese characters Inscription Stones of the eight gates of The Seoul City wall as well as Namsomunji(南小門地). It was possible to infer the locations of the Thousand-Chinese characters Inscription Stones at the time of the construction of the Seoul City wall, not only those of the six existing castle gates, but also those of Hyehwa-gate(惠化門), Gwanghui-gate(光熙門), Namsomunji(南 小門地), Soui-gate(昭義門) and Donuimunji(敦義門地), which were lost or moved now. At the time of the construction of the Seoul City Wall(서울 한양도성), 58 or 60% of the 97 Thousand-Chinese Characters Inscription were secured, and their location was de- termined. It will serve as an empirical research foundation for how it has been changed and managed through the 600-year level, and I also look forward to in-depth research of each of the newly discovered Thousand-Chinese characters as more studies will be entailed in the future.
