남북조 시대 인동문을 활용한 벽지 패턴디자인 개발 (Development of Wallpaper Pattern Design Utilizing Honeysuckle Motif from the Northern and Southern Dynasties)

초록

인동문은 남북조 시대에 다양한 형태로 발전한 풍요와 재생을 상징하는 전통 문양으로, 현대 인테리어 디자인에서 문화적 가치와 역사적 의미를 전달하는창의적 요소로 재해석되고 있다.
본 연구는 남북조 시대 인동문 패턴의 조형적 특징인 기하학적 및 장식적인 요소에서 영감을 얻어 독창적인 벽지 패턴디자인을 개발하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 그리고 벽지 디자인 산업의 디자인 콘텐츠를 개발하는 데 기초자료를 마련하고, 신시장 창출과 고부가가치의 벽지 디자인 산업의 활성화에 도움을 주는 데그 목적을 두고 있다.
연구범위는 문헌과 온라인 자료를 통해 남북조 시대 인동문의 특징을 지닌 소용돌이 인동문, 연꽃결합인동문, 연속 인동문, 복합 인동문, 입체 인동문, 추상화된 인동문을 연구범위로 선정하였으며, “Rotativity”, “Continuity”, “Abstractness” 세 가지 주제를 중심으로 벽지 패턴디자인을 개발하였다.
연구 방법은 국내외 서적, 논문, 웹페이지 등 문헌을통해 인동문의 이해, 남북조 시대 인동문의 특징에 대한이론적 고찰을 진행하였고 어도비 일러스트레이터(Adobe Illustrator)와 어도비 포토샵(Adobe Photoshop)을 이용하여 벽지 패턴디자인을 제안하였다.
남북조 시대 인동문의 특징을 바탕으로 한 벽지 패턴디자인은 다음과 같은 결론을 도출시켰다. 첫째, “Rotativity”를 주제로 한 벽지 디자인은 소용돌이 인동문과 연꽃결합 인동문에서 영감을 받아 자연 요소를 현대적으로 재해석하여 전통과 현대의 조화를 구현하였다. 둘째, “Continuity”를 주제로 한 벽지 디자인은 연속 인동문과 복합 인동문에서 영감을 받아 정교하고 세밀한 인동문 패턴을 구현하여 고전적 아름다움과 문화적 상징성을 표현하였다. 셋째, “Abstractness”를 주제로 한 벽지 디자인은 입체 인동문과 추상화된 인동문을현대적으로 재해석하여 자연스러운 흐름과 시각적 깊이를 표현하여 디자인하였다.
그러므로 기존 인동문 활용 벽지 디자인의 사례분석을 통해 전통 문양의 현대적 해석 및 구현 방식에대한 시사점을 도출하였다. “Rotativity”, “Continuity”, “Abstractness” 세 가지 주제로 만들어진 디자인은전통과 현대의 조화로운 융합을 보여주었다. 이를 통해 전통 문양의 현대적 재해석이 혁신적 디자인으로이어질 수 있음을 확인하였으며, 전통문화의 글로벌경쟁력 강화 가능성을 제시하였다. 향후 다양한 전통문양을 대상으로 한 연구와 실제 제품화를 통한 시장반응에 대한 조사가 필요하다고 사료된다.

영어초록

The honeysuckle pattern, which evolved into diverse forms during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, is a traditional motif symbolizing abundance and regeneration. In contemporary interior design, this pattern has been reinterpreted as a creative element encapsulating cultural value and historical significance.
This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the varied honeysuckle patterns from the Northern and Southern Dynasties era and integrate them into modern wallpaper designs. The research sought to enhance design diversity and foster creativity in the field by reinterpreting the aesthetic value and cultural connotations of these traditional motifs.
The research scope involved investigating the history, characteristics, and types of honeysuckle patterns through literature and online resources and analyzing literature related to wallpaper design. Case studies of brands such as Cole & Son were analyzed to understand modern applications of honeysuckle patterns. Based on this, wallpaper pattern designs combining honeysuckle motifs were developed and proposed under three themes: ‘Rotativity,’ ‘Continuity,’ and ‘Abstractness.’ The research methods included a theoretical review of honeysuckle patterns and their characteristics during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period through domestic and international books, papers, and web pages. Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop were used to propose wallpaper pattern designs.
The wallpaper pattern designs, derived from the distinctive characteristics of honeysuckle motifs from the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, yielded the following conclusions. First, the wallpaper design under the ‘Rotativity’ theme was inspired by spiral honeysuckle and lotus-combined honeysuckle patterns, reinterpreting natural elements in a modern way to achieve harmony between tradition and modernity. Second, the wallpaper design under the ‘Continuity’ theme was inspired by continuous honeysuckle and complex honeysuckle patterns, implementing intricate and detailed honeysuckle patterns to express classical beauty and cultural symbolism. Third, the wallpaper design exploring the ‘Abstractness’ theme offered a modern reinterpretation of three-dimensional and abstracted honeysuckle patterns. This approach effectively conveyed a sense of natural flow and visual depth in the design.
This study derived significant implications for the modern interpretation and implementation of traditional motifs through a comprehensive analysis of existing honeysuckle-based wallpaper designs. The designs created under the three themes—‘Rotativity,’ ‘Continuity,’ and ‘Abstractness’—exemplified a harmonious fusion of traditional elements and contemporary aesthetics. This approach confirmed that modern reinterpretations of conventional motifs can yield innovative designs and suggested the potential for enhancing the global competitiveness of traditional cultural elements. The study proposed the need for future research on various traditional motifs and market response surveys through actual product development.
