이광수와 沈從文의 ‘有情(유정)’사상 비교연구 (A Comparative Study of Kwangsoo Lee’s and Shen Congwen’s “Yujeong” Thoughts)

초록

이 글의 목적은 한·중 현대문학의 대표 작가인 이광수와 沈從文의 문학에 등장하는 ‘유정(有情)’의 개념이 현대 동양문론 담론에서 간과할 수 없는 내용으로 보고, 비교 연구를 통해 ‘유정’의 양상과 의미를 밝히는 것이다. 물론 서구 방향으로 기웃거린다는 단일 문학연구의 시각에서 해방돼 서양 문학론에서 일방적으로 자원과 방법을 뽑아내는 문학적 사고 관성에 연연해하지 않는 것은 오늘날 동양학계의 공동사업이 됐다. 또한 이를 전제로 동양적 특색을 띤 문학이론 체계를 구축해야 한다. 그러자면 동양의 문학연구자들이 기존의 동양 민족문학에 눈을 돌려 현대문학에 대한 비판적 실천 속에서 본토 문학의 논설 자원을 의도적으로 발굴하고 정리할 필요가 있다. 이광수와 沈從文은 거의 동시대에 한·중 문단에서 활약해 왔으며 아직까지 서로 영향을 미치는 관계를 밝혀내지 못한 채 ‘유정’이라는 용어를 채택하여 동양적 특성을 지닌 ‘유정’ 사상을 형성하였다. 여기에서의 ‘유정’이란 ‘정(情)’이 있다는 것으로, 이에 관하여 이광수와 沈從文은 사람의 내면을 파헤치는 역할을 놓고 진행한 천근한 논의에 머무르지 않고 , 그 토대 위에서 이의 문학적 측면에서의 효용성을 확립하는 데 더욱 중점을 두고 있는 것이다. 무정/유정 대비법, 그리고 ‘유정’ 세계에 대한 지향은 이광수의 소설 속에 다양하게 투영되는 집필의 특징이다. 한편 沈從文이 제기한 ‘유정’은 문학 창작이 송대 소경화와 마찬가지로 재료나 수식어의 나열함이 아니라 ‘허백’을 설계하여 ‘작가의 생명 감정, 소망, 신앙’을 작품에 주입하는 데 최고의 가치를 두어야 한다는 습작 방법을 은유하고 있다. 이처럼 두 작가는 ‘유정’의 사상에 바탕을 두고 인간의 감정에 대한 문학적 사고를 각 시기별로 다양하게 의미화 하였다. 두 작가의 ‘유정’사상은 한데 놓고 시대 상황과 작가 경험 등이 다층적으로 연계된다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 이처럼 ‘유정’ 사상은 이광수와 沈從文이 인간의 감정에 대한 문학적 사색에 따라 성숙하게 빚어낸 문학 창작의 법칙이다.

The article believes that the concept “Yujeong” appeared in the literature which representative writers of Koreanand Chinese modern literature are Kwangsoo Lee and Shen Congwen, is a contentthat cannot be ignored in the discussion of modern oriental literary theory. Itaims to show the form and meaning of “Yujeong” by usingcomparative research, and provide new thinking to construct the theoreticalsystem of oriental literature. Of course, liberating from a single literaryresearch perspective that is staring at the West, and not sticking to theliterary thinking inertia that unilaterally extract resources and methods from westernliterary theories, and building a literary theoretical system with orientalcharacteristics based on this premise which undoubtedly has become a commoncause that oriental academic circles face today. Therefore, it is necessary forEastern literature researchers to set their sights on the existing Easternnational literature. And in their practice of criticizing modern literature,they should consciously explore and sort out local literature discussion resources.Kwangsoo Lee and Shen Congwen almostly have been active in the Korean and Chineseliterature arena since their contemporaries. When it has not been possible tofind out that there is a direct relationship between the two of them, they haveadopted the word “Yujeong” in unison, and they formedtheir own “Yujeong” thoughts with the oriental culture‘s characteristics. The so-called “Yujeong” means “sentiment”. Compared with theexploration of the emotional elements of the humans’ inner world, Kwangsoo Leeand Shen Congwen pay more attentions to establish its utility in literature.The Ruthless/Sentimental Contrast Method and the yearning for the "sentiment"world are an important writing feature that is often projected in Kwangsoo Lee'snovels. Shen Congwen’s “sentiment” as a study method emphasizes that literarycreation should be the same as Xiaojing paintings in the Song Dynasty. The highestvalue does not lie in the stacking of materials and words, but in the design of “virtual blank” which injects life feelings, desires, and beliefsinto the works. It can be seen that, as an original literary creation ruleformed by Eastern writers based on literary thinking about human emotions, thethought of “Yujeong” is an important content that needs tobe explored when constructing the theoretical system of Eastern literature.From this point of view, we can do a comparative study and find itssignificance by linking their literary thinking with the time’s situation and thewriters’ experience.
