한국어와 중국어의 의문문 억양 대조 연구 (A Contrastive Study on the Intonation of Korean and Chinese Interrogative Sentences)

초록

억양은 발화에서 나타나는 음높이의 움직임으로 문법적 기능 및 화자의 태도 및 감정을 전달하는 기능을 지닌 초분절음적 자질 중의 하나이다. 억양에는 다양한 의미와 정보가 담겨 있어서 의사소통에 매우 중요한 역할을 하므로 억양이 좋을수록 의사소통의 효과는 더욱 향상된다. 외국인 학습자의 발화는 단어 및 문법 등의 오류가 없다 할지라도 억양이 틀린 경우 한국어답지 않게 들리는 경우가 많다. 억양의 양상은 발화의 유형에 따라 언어마다 다양하게 나타난다. 이 글에서는 한국어와 중국어의 의문문의 억양을 분석·대조하였다. 한국어 모어 화자가 발화한 한국어 의문문과 중국어 모어 화자가 발화한 중국어 의문문의 억양을 분석함으로써 한국어와 중국어 의문문의 억양에 어떤 차이점과 공통점이 있는지를 음성 실험을 통해 고찰하였다. 한국어 의문문의 각 유형에 대응되는 중국어의 의문문의 억양은 억양 패턴, 길이, 음역, 기울기 면에서 어떤 대조적인 특징이 있는지를 구체적으로 검토하였다. 이 연구 결과는 한국어와 중국어의 교수·학습과 매우 밀접하게 연관되며 학습자의 의문문 억양 오류의 원인을 규명하고 적절한 교수·학습 방안을 개발하는 데 기여할 것으로 여겨진다.

영어초록

This study aims to contrast the intonation of the Korean and Chinese interrogative sentences. We take Korean and Chinese native speakers as the test subjects, analyze their interrogative intonations, and compare the similarities and differences between the intonations of the Korean and Chinese interrogative sentences. This study uses the experimental phonetic method to contrast and analyze the duration, the pitch range, the quarter-tone slope, and the intonation pattern of the intonations in Korean and Chinese interrogative sentences. Through the statistical test and the theoretical analysis of the experimental results, the similarities and differences of the intonations of interrogative sentences between Korean and Chinese are checked.
The experimental results show that the types of tones used in various interrogative sentences in Korean are different from those in Chinese. The intonational duration of interrogative sentence of Korean is shorter than that of Chinese, the pitch range of Korean is higher than that of Chinese, and the quarter-tone slope of Korean is larger than that of Chinese.
The experimenal results have to do with the fact that Chinese is a tone language. When speaking Chinese, we must first ensure that the meaning of the words that make up the sentence should be unchanged by guaranteeing the original tone of each word. So the tone of the sentence cannot rise or fall too much. Otherwise, the meaning of the sentence will be changed, so the pitch range and quarter-tone slope of the interrogative tones of Chinese are smaller than those of Korean.
It seems that this result is helpful for the intonational education for Korean and Chinese learners. In the follow-up study, we try to show the practical application of this result.
