초록

In this paper, the pitch difference between Korean and Chinese interrogative sentence intonations was analyzed using the formal theory and the undulating scale theory by Feng Shi, Ping Wang, and Lei Liang (2008). Interrogative sentences with an interrogative pronoun were not considered in this paper. The Korean result was obtained from an experiment on four native speakers randomly chosen, and the Chinese result was referred from the formal paper of Feng Shi and Ping Wang. The Korean result showed that AP3, AP2, and AP1 were ranked as larger pitch ranges in sequence and the Chinese result showed that AP3, AP1, and AP2 were ranked as larger pitch ranges in sequence. According to this result, the standard Korean undulating tone was mainly influenced by the presence of the laryngeal features of first-syllable consonants in each AP. Consequently, most native Koreans who spoke Chinese as a foreign language demonstrate a Korean pitch pattern with Chinese interrogative speaking.
