本研究は、南方地域を空間的背景とする日本と韓国の戦争文学の比較を目 的とする。具体的な研究対象は、アジア·太平洋戦争末期、フィリピンでの戦 闘に参戦した共通の体験を持ち、作品で常に南方に対して關心を示してきた 大岡昇平と李丙求が戦後発表した戦争小説である。大岡と李丙求の作品に描かれている南方の自然風景は、主人公に「生」と「死 」に対する觀念の矛盾を意識させ、自分の置かれた狀況を認識させるが、両者 ともに自分が置かれている現実を認識して自ら変化し「生」に対する意欲を自 覚させられる媒体として作用している。大岡の作品で、南方の原住民たち は、他国の戰爭に巻き込まれ、財産を奪われ、死んでいく不運な人々、ま た、敗残兵として残された主人公たちの命を脅かす「敵」として描写されてい る。これに対して、李丙求の作品では、原住民を「敵」として見なしておら ず、かえって、同じ植民地国家の国民としての連帯感を感じ、彼らの一員に なろうとする。これは異國の風景を描写する時、故鄕を連想させる場面が 度々登場することも関係があると思われる。両作家の作品の中に描かれた南 方に対する共通点は、集團から離脱した個人としての自己認識であるとみら れるが、戦争を体験した場所が国家の影響力が弱まった第３国のフィリピン であったことから、その原因を見つけ出すことができる。また、南方の原住 民に対する視点の差は、まず、軍人としての自覚が相対的に不足していた日 本の補充兵と植民地国家出身の兵士という主人公たちの置かれた異なるバッ クグラウンドに起因すると考えられる。

영어초록

This study aims to compare war literature of Japan and Korea that is geographically set in Southeast Asia. More specifically, it will analyze the war novels published in the post-war period by two authors, Ooka Shohei and Lee Byung-ku.
While the scenery of Southeast Asia depicted in the works of Ooka and Lee on the one hand elicit different reactions from the protagonists in terms of their perceptions of the situation in which they find themselves and of the conceptual contradictions of life and death, the environments, on the other hand, serve as a medium for both protagonists to come to grips with reality, endeavor to bring about change, and thereby be instilled with the desire for life which they strive to realize.
Ooka in his novel describes the native people of Southeast Asia either as ill-fated people who have been thrown into a war started by others and are consequently being deprived of their possessions and dying off, or as “enemies” who threaten the lives of the protagonists left behind as defeated forces. On the contrary, the characters in Lee’s works rarely view the natives as enemies. Instead, they tend to identify with the native population in that they too are part of a colony, and hope to become assimilated with the locals. This is perhaps manifested in the scenes in which they frequently reminisce about their hometowns while being surrounded by all things foreign. The divergent view toward the Southeast Asian natives is attributed primarily to the different backgrounds of the protagonists -- one is a soldier from imperial Japan, while the other is from a colony. Another contributing factor is perhaps the different circumstances confronting Korea and Japan during the period when the novels were being written -- Japan’s post-war regime under U.S. rule, and ideological conflicts and the Korean War that ensued during the post-liberation years in the 1950’s when Korea was struggling to build a national identity.
