초록

한국과 중국은 동아시아 문화권의 중요한 국가로 고대로부터 밀접한 관계를 맺어왔고 지금도 지정학상으로나 경제적으로 깊은 상호관계를 유지하고 있다. 문화의 영역에서 예술은 그 시대의 정신을 집약하고 있으며, 국가의 문화 배경에 따라 표현과 양식이 다르게 나타날 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 이 연구는 한국과 중국의 문화적 배경을 확인해보고 가면무로서 민중의 예술인 한국의 탈춤과 중국의 경극을 비교하여 분석해보았다. 우선, 문화의 중요성을 검증하고 한국과 중국의 문화의 차이점 및 유사점을 비교하기 위해 국가문화, 생활문화, 예술문화의 특징을 살펴보았다. 예술 문화는 정치, 경제, 사회 환경의 변화에 따라 서서히 변하는 측면을 보이고 있으며 발전단계와 과정에 있어서 차이가 있으나 고유문화의 특성을 잘 반영하고 있으며 한국과 중국 고유문화의 조형적 특징에는 뚜렷한 차이를 지니고 있다. 특히 탈춤과 경극은 가면무로써 공연 메카니즘에서 많은 유사점을 가지고 있지만 한국의 탈춤의 특징은 소박하고 단순하고 자연스러움으로, 중국의 경극의 특징은 장대하고 장식적이고 화려함으로 요약할 수 있다. 각기 상이한 문화적 배경아래 탈춤과 경극이 그 문화에 맞게 독창성을 부각시켜 어떠한 문화적 발전을 도모해왔는지에 대한 인식과 문화적 교류의 긴밀성을 연구하였다.

영어초록

Korea and China had maintained close relations with each other since ancient times as two leading countries of East Asian cultural bloc, and there is still a close relationship between the two in terms of geopolitics and economy. It cannot be denied that Korea has been under the huge cultural and philosophical influence of China, and there are lots of cultural differences and similarities between the two. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to examine the cultural background of Korea and China and to make a comparative analysis of Korean masked dance and Chinese Peking opera, which were both masked-dance dramas in the category of popular art. After the importance of culture was discussed, the characteristics of Korean and Chinese culture, lives and art were explored to find out Sino-Korean differences and similarities. According to G. Hofstede, a researcher of cross-cultural comparison, both countries are marked by centralism and collectivistic culture, but there are differences between the two in terms of whether their culture is feminine or masculine and whether they are receptive to uncertainty or not. Overall, the two countries are homogeneous in large part. In terms of living culture, the two countries are different in clothing, specifically line, color, pattern and form. And they are different in food culture as well. Korea attaches more importance to the harmony and taste of food rather than external look, whereas China gives more weight to harmony of color, flavor and beauty. Chinese architecture is majestic and splendid, while Korean architecture is simple, plain and shows the beauty of the golden mean. In the area of art, the two nations undergo a gradual change along with political, economic and social shifts. They are in a different stage of cultural development, and their art is well grounded in unique tradition. Besides, there are significant differences in formative characteristics between the two. Specifically, Korean masked dance and Peking opera are similar in large part in terms of performing mechanism. As for differences, Korean masked dance is simple, plain and natural, and Chinese Peking opera is majestic, ornamental and gorgeous.
