초록

중세 무슬림 이베리아의 역사에 대한 연구는 평화적 공존의 중세적 실험이었다는 주장과 문명 간 갈등과 충돌의 키워드로 요약된다. 두 논지 모두 연구자의 문화적 배경, 인종, 종교 등의 정체성과 관련이 깊다. 마치 중세 이베리아 문화 구성요인들 간 실제관계의 연장이라고 해도 과언이 아니다.
본 연구의 핵심은 상호 대조적인 두 주장을 비판적으로 보완하는 것이다. 즉, 본 논문에서는 기존의 두 주장이 관계의 양단(兩端)에 위치하고 있어 표면적으로는 대립적인 것처럼 보이지만, 인식의 관점을 달리하면 상호보완의 구도를 간주 할 수 있다. 새로운 제안의 이론적 배경은 음양오행론이다. 이에 따르면, 공존과 갈등의 연구 키워드는 중세 이베리아 역사의 두 이질적인 측면이면서, 상반응합(相反應合)의 원리에 따라 협력과 경쟁의 구도로 작용한다.
새로운 해석을 위해서는 연구의 관점, 즉 연구방법론 상의 역사철학에 대한 제고가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 직선적(또는 기독교적) 역사철학을 대신해 순환론적 역사철학을 채택한다. 역사는 순환의 과정이며, 상보성 구도에 따라 다양한 관계구도를 연출하면서 역사요인들 간의 궁극적인 균형을 지향하는 복수 요인들 간 관계의 유기적인 전체이다.
서고트 왕국의 이베리아 정복은 로마제국이 주도했던 유럽-지중해 세계의 통일성과 Intercommunication 체제의 붕괴에 따른 것처럼 보인다. 이 경우, (로마제국에 의한)통일은 이전 시대의 구도에서 전체를 구성했던 부분들이 새로운 합(合)의 차원으로 변화된 것이며, 상호간 이질적인 복수 요인들이 협력과 경쟁의 작용을 지속적으로 반복한 결과이다. 이후 통일성의 와해도 그 분열의 과정을 통해 새로운 통일성을 향해 나아간다. 서고트의 이베리아 지배는 로마에 의한 지중해-게르만 유럽의 통일이 보다 풍부한 요인들로 구성된 새로운 통일성을 지향하는 역사의 한 흐름에 해당한다. 변화를 자극하는 주요 동기들은 대개의 경우, 내부에서 발견된다. 지배-피지배 간 일방적인 관계, 교리와 이념 등의 차이에 의한 갈등 등과 같은 비(比)상보성의 불균형이 그것이다. 이러한 일련의 지적은 8세기 초반 이슬람의 이베리아 정복을 가능하게 만든 요인들로 작용했다. 무슬림의 지배는 딤미제도, 즉 딤미(Dhimmi)에 대한 법적 규정을 고려할 때 로마제국의 공존적 통치정책과 별반 다르지 않다. 지배세력이 유일신 종교 문화였다는 점에 있어서도 4세기 말에 기독교를 국교로 선포한 로마제국에 비유될 수 있다.
본 연구에서 무슬림의 역사적 중재를 지적한 이유는 이것이 이후의 역사적 흐름에서 상보적 교류의 연속성과 공존의 구도를 보장하는 기능이었다고 판단하기 때문이다. 세 유일신 신앙은 한편으로는 대립적 구도로 보이지만, 이들 간 큰 차이는 (차별이 아닌)다양성의 시각에서 볼 때 오히려 관계의 역동성을 자극하는 동기로 작용하였다. 중재의 언급에 따른 또 다른 이유는 무슬림의 등장이 게르만의 유입으로 단절되었던 유럽지역의 농업권과 지중해의 교역활동을 재차 연결하는 결과를 동반하였기 때문이다. 그리고 이 과정에서 우리는 스스로의 종교, 문화적 정체성을 유지하면서도 타자의 현실에 의한 영향을 수용한 사례들을, 예를 들면, 모사라베와 유대인들의 폭넓은 사회적, 경제적 활동과 번역으로 상징되는 지적 교류와 그 결과들에서 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

The study of the history of medieval Muslim Iberia is summarized as the subject of conflict and conflict among the civilizations, and claims that it was a medieval experiment of peaceful coexistence. Both theories are deeply related to the cultural, racial and religious identity of the researcher. It is no exaggeration to say that this is an extension of the relationship between medieval Iberian cultural components.
The key to this study is to critically complement the two contrasting arguments. In other words, in this paper, the two existing arguments are located at both ends of the relationship, and on the surface, they appear to be in opposition. The theoretical background of the new proposal is Yin and Yang and Five Elements. According to this, the research key-words of coexistence and conflict are two heterogeneous aspects of medieval Iberian history and act as a structure of cooperation and competition according to the principle of phase reaction synergy.
The Iberian conquest of the Visigoths seems to be due to the collapse of the European-Mediterranean unity and intercommunication regime led by the Roman Empire. In this case, the unification (realized by the Roman Empire) is the result of the change of the parts that made up the whole in the structure of the previous era to a new level of unity, and the result of the continual repetition of cooperation and competition between different and heterogeneous factors. Afterwards, even if unity falls, it progresses toward new unity through the process of division. The Western Gothic rule over the Iberian Peninsula is a trend in history that aims for a new unity of Roman-German European unification by Romans. The main motivations for stimulating change are usually found internally. This is an imbalance of non-complementarity, such as a unilateral relationship between dominant-to-dominant control and conflict by differences in doctrines and ideologies. This set of points served as a factor in making Islamic conquest of Islam possible in the early eighth century. Muslim rule is not much different from the coexistent ruling policy of the Roman Empire, given the legal provisions for the Dhimmitude system. Even though the ruling power was the only religious culture, it can be compared to the Roman Empire, which declared Christianity as the state religion at the end of the 4th century.
The reason for pointing out the historical mediation of Muslims in this study is that it is a function of ensuring the continuity of complementary exchanges and the composition of coexistence in later historical flows. The three monotheistic beliefs, on the one hand, appear to be oppositional compositions, but the great difference between them acts as a motive for stimulating the dynamics of relationships, from the perspective of diversity (not discrimination). Another reason for the mention of arbitration is that the rise of Muslims was accompanied by a re-connection between the agricultural rights of Europe and the Mediterranean trade, which were cut off by the Germanic influx. And in this process, we maintain examples of our own religious and cultural identities, while embracing the influences of others' realities, for example, intellectual exchange, symbolized by the broad social and economic activities and translations of Mozarabs and the Jews.
