유랑예인의 무(巫)업과 연희활동-포장극단 연희자 활동을 중심으로- (Shamanic Profession and Theatrical Activity by Wandering Artists －Focused on the Activity by Theatrical Performers in the Theatrical Company on the Road－)

초록

본 연구는 전통문화의 계승에 대한 논의를 무(巫)계 집안의 공연활동, 특히 그들이 활동했던 유랑연희단체였던 포장극단의 활동을 통해 그 양상을 살폈다. 20세기에도 여전히 무업이 문화의 전반에서 주목받는 상황에서, 무(巫)계 집안에서 태어나 현대의 시대적 흐름에 따라 다양한 형태의 공연콘텐츠를 만들어가고 있는 그들의 활동을 주목한 것이다.
이들이 속했던 포장극단은, 이전의 창극단, 여성국극단, 여성농악단에서 활동했던 연희자들의 주요 활동무대였다. 포장극단의 연희자들은 권번과 국악양성소에서 판소리와 연극을 배우기도 하고, 포장극단의 활동을 통해서 판소리를 배우고 연극을 익히며, 새로운 연희를 이어갔다. 이들은 무계 집안에서 태어나 무업을 잇던 후손들이 20세기에 무업의 전통양식을 바탕으로 다양한 형태의 공연콘텐츠로 발전한 현상과 맞물린다.
포장극단에서 활동했던 전남지역의 대표적 연희자로는, 진도 박석화 무계 후손으로 현재 국가무형문화재 다시래기 보유자인 강준섭, 경남오광대와 무계후손으로서 현재 국가무형문화재 다시래기 전수조교인 김애선, 해남안초네 무계 후손으로서 전남무형문화재 판소리고법보유자 추정남 등이 있다. 이와 같이 포장극단에서 무계의 연희활동은 이례적인 것이 아니었다. 이들은 이후 다양한 예술 활동을 이어가면서 무형문화재로 지정되는 등, 현재까지 전문예인으로써 명맥을 이어오고 있다.
또한 이들이 참여한 포장극단은 대중들에게 큰 인기를 얻었다. 이은 무(巫)업을 통해 연희를 자연스럽게 체화한 후손으로서 그 역량과 기능을 이어받아, 20세기 시대적 흐름에 맞물려 변화하는 대중들의 관심을 끌 수 있는 요소들을 스스로 창작하였기 때문이다. 무업을 잇는 후손들은 포장극단에서 공연활동을 경험하면서 새로운 연희활동을 이어올 수 있었다.

영어초록

The present study, among the discussions about the succession of traditional culture, has examined the theatrical activity and characteristic of descendants who continued the shamanic profession and its pattern through the activity by the theatrical company on the road who was the wandering theatrical group. Under such a situation that the shamanic profession still attracted an attention in overall culture even in 20th century, the present study has paid attention on the activity of those who were born in the line of shaman to have made a performance content of various types.
The theatrical company on the road where they belonged was the major activity stage by theatrical performers who were active in previous Changguk Theatrical Company, Women’s Changguk Theatrical Company, and Women’s Nongak Theatrical Company. Theatrical performers in the theatrical company on the road used to learn Pansori and play at the gisaeng call-office and the training center for Korean traditional songs or learn Pansori through the activity by the theatrical company on the road and mastered the play to continue new theatrical performance. These activities link to the phenomenon developed to a performance content of various types by the descendents who were born in the shaman family to have continued the shamanic profession based on the traditional pattern of shamainc profession in 20th century.
Representing theatrical performers in Jeonnam area who were active in the theatrical company on the road are Kang Joon Seop who is the descendant of shaman line of Jin-do Park Seok Hwa and the holder of Dashiraegi (the funeral play) which is currently the national intangible cultural asset, Kim Ae Sun who is the descendant of Gyeongnam Okwangdae (five clowns) and shaman line and the transfer assistant of Dashiraegi, and Chu Jeong Nam who is the descendant of shaman line of Haenam An Cho Ne and the holder of drum beat method for Pansori which is Jeonnam’s intangible cultural asset. Such theatrical activities by the line of shaman in the theatrical company on the road were not exceptional. Later, these people continued various art activities and were appointed for the intangible cultural asset, and continued its tradition as a professional theatrical performer until now.
