陽明美學으로 본 品格論에 대한 再考 - 妙格을 중심으로 - (Reconsideration of Pumgyeoglon Seen by Yangmyeong Aesthetics - Focusing on Myogyeog -)

초록

양명미학(陽明美學)은 철학적 근거가 자연스러운 현상으로 수용되어 양지(良知)를 본체로 한 주체심(心卽理)이 핵심이며 지행합일(知行合一)의 실천행위는 독창적인 예술 창출로 연결된다. 결국 본심에 의해 표출되는 심물일치(心物一致)의 심상미학이며 내재적 자유와 감성적 측면이 결합되어 표출된 ‘괴(怪)’의 미학으로 귀결된다. 동양회화의 품격론(品格論)에 대한 비평은 시대마다 출현한 화론가나 비평가들의 비평기준이나 방법에 따라 결정되었으며 예술에 대한 미의식(美意識)이 핵심으로 작용하였다. 이들의 공통된 품격론의 등급은 ‘일격(逸格)’과 ‘신격(神格)’을 가장 높은 품등으로 평하였으며 그것은 화가 내면의 심상이 내재되고 사상이나 뜻이 반영된 ‘사의(寫意)’를 가장 중시했다는 사실을 확인할 수 있다. 그러나 융ㆍ복합적인 현시대가 요구하는 것은 창의성의 표출이므로 현 시대정신에 부합된 화경(畫境)으로 창출되어야 그 가치가 성립되며, 화가의 격조 또한 다르게 해석될 수 있고 품격의 가치도 변화될 수 있다고 본다. 따라서 본 연구는 동양 회화의 품격론에 대한 새로운 관점에서의 비판적 견해를 통해 ‘묘격(妙格)’의 가치에 대한 타당성 여부를 논의하고자 한다. 이를 위해 ‘묘격’을 양명미학으로 해석하고 품격론의 비평기준과 방법을 현시대의 요구에 부합한 변화와 진보의 시각으로 접근하여 ‘묘격’이 회화비평에서 품등이 낮은 격조로 폄하(貶下)받는 품격이 아님을 확인하는 데 목적을 두었다. 그리고 ‘괴’의 미학으로 표출된 개성주의 화가 작품을 분석한 결과 ‘묘격’은 예술풍격이 독특한 창조성을 지니고 있다는 점에서 양명미학과 일맥상통하며 밀접한 상관관계가 성립됨을 알 수 있다. 이에 ‘묘격’은 모든 품격[(일(逸)ㆍ신(神)ㆍ능격(能格)]을 아우르고 어느 품등의 격조보다 가장 높은 품격임을 확인할 수 있다. 따라서 ‘묘격’에 대한 다각적인 관점의 구체적인 분석을 통해 화가의 의의(意義) 세계가 다양한 표현방식의 독창적인 ‘괴’의 미학으로 표출되었으며 현 시대정신에 부합된 최고의 품격은 ‘묘격’으로 귀결할 수 있다. ‘묘격’은 현 시대적 가치에 상응한 진보된 격조이며 동양 미학에 대한 새로운 시도의 일환으로써 균형적인 미의식과 더불어 비판적 안목의 새로운 기반 가능성을 예측해 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

In Yangming aesthetics, the philosophical foundation is seen as a natural phenomenon, with the subjective mind, centered around Yangji, serving as the core, and with the practice, where knowledge and action are inherently unified, leading to the creation of original art. In the end it is an aesthetics of inner emotions in which objects and I are one, expressed by the original mind, and ends up as a ‘Goe(Bizarre)’ aesthetics expressed by combining intrinsic freedom and emotional aspects. Criticism of the Pumgyeoglon(Theory of Evaluation) in Oriental paintings was determined according to the criticism standards and methods of painters and critics that emerged in each era, and the aesthetic sense of art served as the core. A common thread in their Pumgyeoglon was the evaluation of ‘Ilgyeog’ (a free spirit) or ‘Singyeog’ (meaning) as the highest qualities, and it can be confirmed that they placed the most importance on ‘Saui’, which contains the inner image of the artist and reflects the thoughts or meaning. However, given the demands of the contemporary era for the expression of creativity, the value of art is established only when it aligns with the spirit of the present time, and the artist’s class can also be interpreted differently, and the value of Pumgyeog can also change. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the validity of the value of ‘Myogyeog’ by critically examining the Pumgyeoglon in Oriental painting from a new perspective. To this end the purpose was to interpret ‘Myogyeog’ as Yangming aesthetics and approach Pumgyeoglon’s criticism standards and methods from a perspective of change and progress that meets the needs of the present era, and confirm that ‘Myogyeog’ is not Pumgyeog, which is evaluated as low-class in painting criticism. Through the analysis of works by individualist painters expressed through the aesthetics of ‘Goe,’ it becomes clear that ‘Myogyeog’ shares the same meaning as Yangming aesthetics in that the artistic style has a unique creativity and a close correlation is established. Accordingly, it can be confirmed that ‘Myogyeog’ encompasses all Pumgyeog(IlgㆍSinㆍNeung-gyeog) and is the highest Pumgyeog than other grades of Gyeogjo. Therefore, By conducting a detailed, multifaceted analysis of ‘Myogyeog,’ it becomes evident that the artist’s inner world is expressed through the unique aesthetics of ‘Goe’ in various expressions, and the highest quality in line with the spirit of the current era can be concluded as ‘Myogyeog’. ‘Myogyeog’ is an advanced Gyeogjo that corresponds to contemporary values, and as part of a new attempt at oriental aesthetics, it is possible to predict the possibility of a new foundation for critical insight as well as balanced aesthetics.
