백제 횡혈묘의 특징과 존재의미 (Characteristics of Baekje's Hwaenghyul-tombs (Cave Tombs 橫穴墓) and its Meaning of Existence)

초록

본 논문은 백제 묘제와 구조에서 차이를 보이는 횡혈묘의 특성을 기초로 횡혈묘의 분포와 매장방식의 변화상을 검토하여, 웅진~사비기 횡혈묘의 존재 의미에 대해서 분석해보고자 하였다. 횡혈묘는 웅진~사비기에 공주와 부여지역에서 조사된 일본열도의 고분시대 왜계 무덤이다. 백제 웅진~사비기 횡혈묘는 24기의 횡혈묘가 군집을 이루는 공주 단지리유적을 제외하면, 공주~부여지역의 11개유적 모두 횡혈식 석실묘 군집 묘역 내 1~3기 내외만 분포하는 모습을 보인다.
백제 횡혈묘는 관을 사용하지 않고 추가장 하는 특성과 달리 부장토기의 기종구성은 백제 중앙의 고분문화와 동일한 공헌의례를 보인다. 즉 공주 단지리횡혈묘 조영주체는 일찍부터 왜계 횡혈묘의 묘제전통에 백제적 의례를 기반으로 장례문화를 수용하는 모습을 보인다. 그리고 사비기에는 중앙세력의 묘역에 횡혈묘가 목관을 사용해 축조되는 등 자연스럽게 융화되는 모습을 보이는데, 이는 횡혈묘 조영세력이 백제 중앙 사회 내에서 전통적 횡혈묘를 조영할 수 있는 특수성을 인정받는 위치에 있었음을 유추할 수 있다.
따라서 백제 횡혈묘 조영세력은 백제의 의례와 문화에 익숙하면서도, 본인들의 전통 묘제를 유지하는 모습을 보인다. 이는 백제 사회 내에서 횡혈묘를 조영하는 고유한 전통을 용인받았던 사람들로, 왜와의 대외관계에 밀접한 역할을 담당했던 구성원이었을 가능성을 검토할 수 있다. 특히 왜계무덤을 사용함에도 백제 중앙의 의례에 익숙한 모습을 통하여 왜와의 교류과정에서 왜로 이주한 이후, 다시 백제로 돌아와 정착한 도왜계 백제관료와 관련된 세력으로 볼 수 있다.
횡혈묘와 같은 다양한 묘제가 웅진~사비기 까지도 백제사회 내 중앙의 묘역 내에서 함께 조영될 수 있었던 이유는, 지배층 내에 편입된 외래인의 존재가 가능했던 백제문화의 개방성을 주목할 수 있다. 결국 다양한 문화를 이해하고 존중함으로써, 다양한 사회구성원과 공존을 지향했던 백제인의 문화다양성에 대한 포용성이 매우 높았음을 나타낸다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper attempted to analyze the meaning of the existence of Woongjin- Sabi period Hwaenghyul-tombs(Cave Tombs) by comparing the characteristics of Baekje's Tomb-Styles and Hwaenghyul-tombs by examining the distribution of Hwaenghyul-tombs and changes in the burial method. Various Tomb-Styles in the local community are maintained until the Woongjin period, and it can be divided into types that show gradual changes based on the local tradition and types of Tomb-Styles based on foreign cultures that suddenly appeared, such as Hwaenghyul-tombs and Jeonchuk-myo(전축묘).
As a result, attention was paid to the existence of Hwaenghyul-tombs(Cave Tombs) as a representative tomb-style introduced based on foreign culture. Hwaenghyul-tombs is a Japanese tomb in the Japanese archipelago that was investigated in the Gongju and Buyeo areas during the Woongjin and Sabi periods.
Although 24 Hwaenghyul-tombs was formed in clusters at the Danji-ri(단지리) of Gongju, most of the Hwaenghyul-tombs investigated at 11 sites in Gongju and Buyeo were compared to only around 1 to 3 Hwaenghyul-tombs tombs. In other words, except for cases where Baekje's Hwaenghyul-tombs(Cave Tombs) was compared in clusters within the Danji-ri, it appears that they are intermittently compared to Woongjin and Sabi period within the ston chamber tombs Cemetery in the center of Baekje.
In particular, it can be seen that a small number of Hwaenghyul- tombs(Cave Tombs) is compared to the royal tombs of Baekje or the noble tombs, which consists of stone chamber tombs, and they share the same contribution examples as Baekje, such as using wooden coffins. It can be inferred that the Hwaenghyul-tombs(Cave Tombs) forces were recognized in Baekje's central society for their specificity to contrast the traditional Hwaenghyul- tombs in this way, unlike the specificity of the tombs style called Hwaenghyul- tomb. In particular, it can be seen that the Danji-ri Hwaenghyul-tombs make subject accepted the funeral culture based on Baekje rituals in the tradition of the tombs style of the Waegye(倭系) Hwaenghyul-tombs.
Therefore, it is possible to examine the possibility that the forces who were familiar with the Baekje ritual culture and contrasted Hwaenghyul-tombs (Cave Tombs) were members of Baekje society who played a close role in foreign relations. In particular, in terms of exchanges with wae(倭, Japan), it can be seen as a force related to the Dowaegye-Baekje officials(渡倭系百濟官僚) who settled in Baekje again after wae(倭, Japan).
