한강 소설에 나타난 포스트모던 환상과 에로스의 회생-「내 여자의 열매」와 「몽고반점」을 중심으로- (The Revival of Eros and Postmodern Fantasy Reflected in the Novels of Han Kang -with a focus on 「My Woman's Fruit」 and 「Mongolian Mark」-)

초록

이 논문에서는 한강의 환상소설이 후기자본주의 시대에 어떻게 에로스의 회생을 시도하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 후기자본주의는 인격성의 영역에까지 상품논리가 침투함에 따라 쓸모없어진 타자를 마치 폐품처럼 유기하는 시대이다. 자본주의적 합리성이 극단에 이른 이런 시대에는 타자에 대한 공감력이 약화되면서 일상에서 타자와 교감하는 에로스가 쇠퇴된다. 그러나 자본의 권력이 작용하는 바로 그곳에서 저항의 잠재력이 생성된다. 극단화된 합리성을 해체해 또 다른 코드의 공간을 생성하려는 포스트모던적 상상력이 바로 그것이다. 한강 소설은 합리적 현실을 횡단해 또 다른 코드의 공간으로 도약하는 복수 코드적 환상을 통해 에로스의 회생을 모색한다.
이런 한강의 환상소설은 모더니즘의 모나드적 환상소설과 구분된다. 「변신」(카프카) 같은 모더니즘의 환상소설에서는 환상을 의미화한 대가로 주인공이 현실에서 거세되어 버려진다. 한강의 환상소설에서도 환상적으로 변신한 주인공들이 거세되어가는 과정이 비슷하게 그려진다. 그러나 한강 소설에서 인물들의 거세의 과정은 합리성과는 다른 코드를 생성하는 과정이기도 하다. 그래서 거세되어가는 주인공을 이해하는 또 다른 인물에 의해 다른 코드의 공간으로 도약하며 에로스를 소생시키는 과정이 나타난다. 예컨대 「내 여자의 열매」에서 아내가 푸른 피멍이 들어 거세되어가는 과정은 식물-되기를 통해 복수 코드적 환상을 생성하는 진행이기도 하다. 그 순간 남편은 목숨을 건 도약을 통해 환상공간으로 횡단함으로써 아내에 대한 에로스를 표현한다. 또한 몽고반점에서는 거세되어가는 처제의 몽고반점에 매료된 형부가 보디 페인팅의 예술을 통해 환상공간을 연출한다. 여기서도 꽃잎-되기를 통해 예술의 환상 공간으로 도약함으로써 에로스의 회생이 시도된다.
이 논문에서는 그런 복수 코드적 환상이 후기자본주의의 감성의 분할에 저항하는 에로스의 재발명임을 살펴보았다. 후기자본주의의 감성이 분할이 타자를 보이지 않게 만들어 에로스를 소멸시킨다면 한강 소설은 타자를 다시 보이게 만들면서 에로스의 회생을 시도한다. 한강 소설은 후기자본주의에서는 타자에 대한 에로스가 회생되어야 사회적 변화의 열망이 되살아날 것임을 암시하고 있다.

영어초록

This thesis looks into how Han Kang's fantasy novels attempt the revival of eros in this era of postcapitalism. In the era of postcapitalism, the logic of commodity invades even the realm of personality and excludes useless others, who are then abandoned as if they were wastes. In this age when capitalistic rationalism has reached an extreme, empathy on others is weakened and eros of sharing each other's feeling in daily life declines. However, the potential of resistance gets created right there where the power of capital is at work; The postmodernist imagination that disassembles extreme rationality in order to create a space of different another code. The novels of Han Kang search for the revival of eros through the fantasy of muti-codes that crosses the rational reality and leaps into the space of another code.
Han Kang's fantasy novels with the aforementioned qualities are distinguished from monadic fantasy novels of the modernism. In modernistic fantasy novels such as 「Metamorphosis」(Kafka), the protagonists get castrated from the reality and deserted for giving meaning to fantasy. A similar process of castration of the protagonists, who metamorphosed into beings of fantasy, is depicted in Han Kang's fantasy novels. The castration process in Han Kang's novels, however, is also a process of creating a code different from rationality. For this reason, also revealed in her novels is the process of leaping into a space of a different code and thus reviving eros, and this is done through another character who understands the protagonist that is being castrated. For example, in 「My Woman's Fruit」 the process of the wife's castration as she gets bruised is also a process of creating the fantasy of muti-codes by her becoming plants. At that moment, her husband expresses his eros toward her through crossing to a fantasy space by risking his life and leaping. In 「Mongolian Mark」, the brother-in-law, who is fascinated by the Mongolian mark of the sister-in-law gradually being castrated, creates a fantasy space through the art of body painting. A revival of eros is attempted here through the leap to a fantasy space of art by her becoming a flower petal.
This thesis examines that such multi-code fantasy is the reinvention of eros as a resistance to distribution of the sensible by postcapitalism. Whereas distribution of the sensible sensibility by postcapitalism disintegrates eros by making other invisible, Han Kang's novels attempt to revive eros by making other visible again. Han Kang's novels imply that, in the era of postcapitalism, a fervent desire for social changes will revive only if eros for other is revived.
