초록

本稿の目的は、渡辺霞亭の「渦巻」が趙重桓によって翻案小説「続編長恨夢」として紹介される過程において起った翻訳の屈折現象を考察し、その考察を通して作品に託した趙重桓の文学内外的意図を明らかにすることである。まず、本稿では、「続編長恨夢」と「長恨夢」との比較を通して趙重桓の翻訳、及び翻案の方法について追究した。趙重桓は原作の異なる「続編長恨夢」と「長恨夢」を連続性のある作品として仕立てるために文学内外の装置を活用した。文学内の装置とは、前編の「長恨夢」に引続き ‘李守一’、‘沈順愛’、‘白楽観’、‘崔万慶’等、作品の主要人物を再度登場させることで、前編との間に連続性を持たせることであった。文学外の装置としては、まず、「続編長恨夢」の広告文を利用し、これが「長恨夢」の後日談であることを強調した点が挙げられる。また、「続編長恨夢」の連載に先立ち、前編「長恨夢」の粗筋を要約して載せることによって読者に二つの作品が繋がっているという印象を植え付けた点が挙げられよう。「渦巻」を原作とする「続編長恨夢」を「長恨夢」と連続性を持つ作品に仕立てようとする試みは、結局翻訳の意図された原作の屈折を齎した。「渦巻」を「続編長恨夢」として翻案する過程において趙重桓は、まず、「渦巻」の作中人物と舞台を徹底とした朝鮮のものに変えている。また、趙重桓は翻案の過程において、二つの作品に連続性を持たせるために、原作には無い叙述を加えたり、あるいは削除したりした。原作への削除は、‘家’、‘相続’、‘血統’ に関する叙述が多い。「渦巻」の脇役に関する叙述もその多くが削除されている。それらの人物は、原作において主人公数江の自立という主題を具現するのに重要な役割を担っている。こうした添削の結果、「続編長恨夢」は、従順な順愛に焦点を合わせた作品に変えられた。だが、それは原作の本来の構想とは掛離れたものであり、当時の朝鮮の読者からも歓迎されなかった。趙重桓が「渦巻」を「長恨夢」の続編として選んだ理由は、日本の興行性のより確実な作品を選ぶことで朝鮮においても成功を収めたいという意図があったからではなかろうか。それは日本の大衆小説によって朝鮮の読者に娯楽を提供しようとした『毎日新報』の意図とも通じ合うものであったと考えられる。

영어초록

This thesis is to analyze refraction phenomenon in adapted novel「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」by Cho Jung-hwan which is originated by popular novel「Uzumaki」by Watanabe Katei, and understand what Cho Jung-hwan wanted to achieve at internal and external literature through the analysis. Cho Jung-hwan used both internal and external literary devices for it too be seen with continuity between「Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」and「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」which is different from the original. For the internal literary device, he created link as main characters are reappeared including Baek, Lak-gwan and Choi, Man-gyeong who were in the previous writing. For the external literary device, he emphasized that this is the next writing of「Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」 through catchline of「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」. His trial to create a link between the two leads refraction of intended translation. In the process of adapting「Uzumaki」into「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」, Cho Jung-hwan completely changed the characters' background as Joseon. He added or deleted some parts for continuity of two writings. He described 'family', 'inheritance' or 'descent' to remove some parts. Supporting roles of「Uzumaki」were largely deleted. They were important to make a subject regarding Kaz's reliance who is the hero of the original. As a result,「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」is changed to be focused on obedient Sun-ae. However, this was different from the original and readers in Joseon at that time did not agree with it. Cho Jung-hwan chose「Uzumaki」as a sequel of「Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」because he wanted to make a commercial success in Joseon as he chooses success-guaranteed piece in Japan. This meets the intention of『Mae-il-sin-bo』that wanted to provide Joseon readers with entertainment through Japanese popular novel. However, according to the result, Cho Jung-hwan's intended refracted translation in「Sequel to Eternal love of Su-il and Sun-ae」damaged the original value of literature internally and failed to make a commercial success externally.
