굿춤 전승지식의 재생산과 ‘몸-지식’의 근대적 변화: 동해안별신굿 무관[춤사위]을 중심으로 (Modern Change in Reproduction of Lore of Gut’s Dance and Body-Knowledge: Case Study of Mugwan(dance) in Donghaean Byeolsingut)

초록

동해안지역 별신굿은 마을공동체가 섬기는 주신을 대상으로 하는 공유지식을 바탕으로 전승되는 가운데 각 굿거리에서는 주무(主巫)가 갖는 다양한 직능신을 위한 가무악 관련 개별적 경험지식이 더해진다. 특히 굿춤은 굿 또는 굿거리 전체의 제의적 법칙 속에서 반복․강조되거나 이러한 정형성의 틈새에서 즉흥적으로도 존재한다. 이러한 굿춤 관련 지식은 전통적으로 굿판이라는 ‘제의적 공간’에서 ‘무당의 몸’을 통해 전승되었다.
한편 굿판에서 허용되는 전통적인 움직임에 ‘근대적 경험 및 지식’이 더해지거나 또는 그 변화의 흐름에 속하지 못함으로써 굿춤은 전승력을 잃게 되기도 한다. 여기서 언급된 ‘근대적 지식’에는 학자들의 관심, 근대적 문물 및 공연문화의 수용, 대중과 자본을 의식한 ‘전문’ 또는 ‘통용’ 지식으로의 지향성이 포함되어 있다. 이 흐름 속에서 굿춤이 지닌 전통적 가치는 새롭게 배치되기도 한다. 그러므로 이 연구는 무당의 몸을 중심으로 한 ‘춤-지식’에 대한 관계성을 염두에 두면서, 동해안별신굿 춤사위의 전승양상과 그것이 지닌 특징을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다.
굿춤의 전승맥락 속에서 춤사위는 크게 명칭이 ‘부여된 것’과 ‘부여되지 않은 것’으로 구분된다. 명칭이 붙여진 대부분의 춤사위는 1980년대 초 학자(춤꾼)들이 관록있는 무당들을 대상으로 조사한 것이거나 굿춤 연행텍스트를 나름의 기준으로 분석한 결과이다. 전래명칭으로 분류된 춤사위에는 손신무관(춤), 뫼산무관, 달넘기무관, 갈매무관, 돌머리무관, 비빔무관, 안유짜기, 앉음무관, 넌출무관, 등맞추기, 어깨맞이, 좌우치기, 겨드랑무관, 양사우치기무관 등이 있으며, 이러한 명칭에는 춤의 형상, 신체 명칭, 움직임의 방향 등을 지시하는 단어가 포함되어 있다. 그 외 춤사위는 학자들에 의해 명칭이 붙여진 것으로서 장단, 무구(巫具, 舞具), 발디딤 등의 내용이 추가된 것이다.
한편 오늘날 동해안지역 무당들이 공통적으로 알고 있는 춤사위 명칭은 돌머리무관, 나비무관, 겨드랑무관, 비빔무관, 손신무관, 앉음무관 등 몇 가지에 불과하며, 그 밖의 춤사위는 무당들이 갖는 개별 지식으로서 그 내용이 구체적이지 않은 것이 많다. 그리고 대부분의 춤사위는 명칭이 부여되지 않은 채 무당의 몸을 통해 감각적/잠재적 지식으로서 존재한다.
그동안 무당과 학자들은 별신굿의 ‘몸-지식’ 중에서 기본형, 연결형, 복합형, 활용형 등의 춤사위를 주목하지 않았다. 가장 대표적인 것이 여러 유형의 춤사위가 결합된 토구름이다. 오늘날 학습무 일부는 ‘손신무관-어포춤-토구름’ 일련의 과정 중 토구름을 생략하기도 하며, 토구름을 둘러싼 다양한 신적 춤사위는 축소되어 전승되고 있다.
다음으로 ‘몸-무구’의 확장된 움직임을 함축하고 있는 연결형, 붙이기형 팔사위 관련 지식이다. 굿춤에는 부채, 수건, 신칼(神-), 탑등(塔燈), 지화(紙花) 등 다양한 상징적 도구를 활용한 움직임이 많다. 이 춤사위는 무구를 사용하지 않을 때의 동작과 힘의 조절, 동작의 크기, 제의적 상징성 등에 있어 그 표현의 방식과 내용이 다르다. 하지만 오늘날 ‘몸-무구’의 연장선상에서 갖는 움직임에 대한 지식과 굿판의 제의적 맥락 속에서 형성되는 움직임(상징성)에 대한 지식이 부재하다. 즉 ‘몸-지식’은 소외된 채 표면적으로 정교함을 드러낼 수 있는 춤의 형식적인 측면만이 그 전승력을 확보한 것이다.
하지만 굿춤이 일반적인 춤과 대별되는 가장 큰 특징은 신과 인간의 관계 속에서 움직임이 형성되고 다양한 ‘제의적 의미’가 발현된다는 점이다. 특히 마을 공동체가 갖는 신뢰를 바탕으로 한 ‘신과 인간’의 관계성 속에서 강조되는 ‘신적 춤사위’ 관련 지식이 그러하다. 하지만 무당과 학자들 모두 굿판에서 형성된 ‘몸-지식’의 전체 또는 그 관계성을 주목하지 않았다. 이것은 굿판의 제의적 맥락 속에서 이해될 수 있는 것이기에 춤사위만 떼어놓고 설명한다면 결코 포착할 수 없는 지식의 영역이다.

영어초록

The Donghaean Byeolsingut(gut: Korean Shamanism’s ritual) has been handed down on the basis of the shared knowledge with the subject of the main god that the village community enshrined while the individual experienced knowledge related to the singing and dancing music for various functional gods held by the main shaman on each gut-geori is added. In particular, the gut-chum(Korean Shamanism’s ritual-dance) is existed in impromptu for repeating and emphasizing, or in the gap of such formality under the ritual principle for gut or gut-geori. The gut-chum related knowledge has been handed down through the ‘body of shaman’ in the ‘ritual space’ of the traditional place of gut. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to search for succession trend of Donghaean Byeolsingut Chumsawi(dance movement) and its characteristics with the focus on relativity on the ‘dance-knowledge’ with the focus on the body of shaman.
The power of transmission may be lost by adding the ‘modern experience and knowledge’ to the traditional movement permitted in the place of gut or unable to belong to the category. In the ‘modern knowledge’ mentioned hereto includes the geographic feature toward the ‘specialty’ or ‘common use’ knowledge recognizing the general public and capital by accommodating the interests of scholars, modern culture and the performance culture. At this time, the traditional value contained in the gut-chum is sometimes newly arranged.
The Chumsawi under the lore context of the gut-chum is largely classified into the one that is granted with a name and ones that are not granted. Most Chumsawis with names were surveyed by the scholars(dancers) with the subjects of seasoned shamans in early part of 1980s or result of analyzing the gut-chum performance text with certain standards. The Chumsawi classified by the names are Sonsin-mugwan(dance), Moisan-mugwan, Dalnumgi-mugwan, Galmae-mugwan, Dolmeori-mugwan, Bibim-mugwan, Anyujjagi, Aneum-mugwan, Neonchul-mugwan, Deungmatchugi, Oekkamati, Jwawoochigi, Geodrang-mugwan, Yangsawuchigi-mugwan and others, and for these names, there are terms that instruct the images of dance, body names, directions of movement and the like. Other Chumsawis are named by scholars that the contents of rhythm, mugu , Baldidim and the likes are added.
In the meantime, the names of Chumsawi that the shamans in the east coastal region are commonly known are only a few, such as, Dolmeori-mugwan, Nabi-mugwan, Geodrang-mugwan, Bibim-mugwan, Sonsin-mugwan, Aneum-mugwan and others, and the other Chumsawis are individual knowledge for the shamans with not much details on the contents. Furthermore, most of Chumsawis are hand down or neglected as the potential knowledge through the body of shaman without granting the names.
To this point, shamans and scholars had not paid attention to the Chumsawis of basic-type, connection-type, integration-type, utility-type and others from the ‘body-knowledge’ of Byeolsin-gut. The most representative one is Togureum that combined several types of Chumsawis. Part of learned dance today may delete Togureum from a series of process of ‘Sonsin-mugwan - Eopochum - Togureum’, and various sacred Chumsawis surrounding Togureum are reduced to hand down.
Next is the knowledge related to palsawi of the connection-type and attachment-type that contains the expanded motions of ‘Body-mugu’ In the gut-chum, it includes the movements that facilitate various symbolic tools of hand-held fan, towel, sacred sword, pagoda lantern, flower on paper and so forth. This Chumsawi has clear difference of method and contents of the expression regarding the motion of not using the mugu, adjustment of force, scale of motion, ritual symbolism and so forth. However, there is insufficient knowledge on movement(symbolism) formed under the ritual context of knowledge and place of gut on movements with the extension of ‘body-mugu’ today. Namely, ‘body-knowledge’ is in the condition to secure the formative power of transmission of the dance that may display the sophistication on the surface.
However, the biggest characteristics of gut-chum that is differentiated from the dance of the Gyobang line is the point that it manifests diverse ‘ritual implications’ as the motions are formed under the relationship of god and human. In particular, it is clear in the ‘sacred Chumsawi’ related knowledge that is emphasized under the relativity of ‘god and human’ based on trust in village community. Nonetheless, the shamans and scholars had not paid attention to its relativity or in its entirety of the ‘body-knowledge’ that is formed in the place of guts. This may be understood under the ritual context of the place of gut that it is within the knowledge that would never been captured if only the Chumsawi is separately described.
