한국 현대 노년시에 나타난 노화된 몸에 대한 인식 및 형상화 방식 연구 (A Study on the Recognition about Senescent Body Appearing in Modern Old Age Poems of Korea and its Embodiment Method)

초록

이 글은 한국 현대 노년시 연구의 일환으로, 노년시에 나타난 ‘노화된 몸’에 주목하여 노년시의 주체가 몸의 각 기관의 노화에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 그것을 어떤 방식으로 형상화하는지를 고찰함으로써 고령화 사회에서의 시적 대응을 보여주고자 하는 것이다.
한국 현대 노년시에 나타난 ‘외견상의 노화된 몸’에 대한 사유는 발화 주체가 노년인 시에서 더 직접적이며 사실적으로 발화되고 있다. ‘외견상의 노화된 몸’은 늙음을 인정하게 되는 주요 요인이며, 그 노화된 놈에 대한 인식은 부정적 이미지나 비유를 통해 비탄의 감정으로 드러나는가 하면, 긍정적 표현을 통해 노년의 아름다움과 의미를 예찬하기도 한다.
‘감각기관의 노화’는 시인들이 가장 안타까워하는 노화이며, 고령의 시인들은 그들이 시인으로서 더는 시적 대상을 감각할 수 없을까 봐 몹시 두려워한다. 그중 청각의 노화는 타인과의 의사소통에 큰 장애가 되는 요인이고, 그로 인해 느끼는 노인의 소외감이 표현되고 있지만, 노년시의 주체들은 청각의 노화로 심한 갈등을 겪기보다는 스스로 그러한 몸의 노화를 수긍하는 자세를 보인다. 한편 시각의 노화는 생활의 불편함을 가져오고 때론 위험한 일을 겪게도 하지만, 오히려 잘 보이지 않는 현상을 새로운 시각적 경험으로 받아들이면서 그 세계를 다시 감각하는 시적 재능을 보여주고 있다.
‘골조직의 노화’에 대한 사유는, 골조직의 노화로 거동이 불편한 노인을 젊은이들의 건강하고 빠른 걸음과 대비함으로써 노화된 몸의 고통을 부각하는 한편, 젊은이들에게 건강의 소중함을 깨닫게 하고, 거동이 불편한 노인들에 대한 이해와 배려의 마음을 가지게 하고 있다. 또한, 골조직이 노화된 몸을 우대받고자 하는 마음보다 타인에게 배려하는 삶을 살고자 하는 태도를 보여주거나, 골조직의 노화가 주는 고통과 죽음에 대한 공포를 유희적 표현으로 무마하고 있는 노년시도 있다.
‘비뇨기관 및 생식기관의 노화’는 노년들이 몸의 노화에 있어 가장 수치심을 많이 느끼는 부분인 만큼 한국 현대 노년시에 나타난 ‘비뇨기관 및 생식기관의 노화’에 대한 사유는, 그것이 결코 수치스러운 모습이 아니라 처음으로 돌아가는 한 과정이라는 인식을 심어주고 있다. 또한 ‘늙음’이란 몸이 정신의 의지와 상관없는 방향으로 움직이는 것이며, 그 상황에서 느끼게 되는 노년의 난감함과 당혹감은 경험하지 않은 사람은 결코 모를 감정임을 강조하면서, 노인들이 비뇨기관의 노화나 생식기관의 노화로 몸을 통제하지 못할 때, 함부로 노인들을 비하하지 말라는 메시지를 전하고 있다.
이렇게 볼 때, 한국 현대 노년시에 나타난 ‘노화된 몸’은 주체가 그것을 자연의 패러다임 속에서 하나의 순리로 받아들이고 있을 때 긍정적인 의미로 받아들여지고 있으며, 사회적 관계의 패러다임 속에서 퇴보되고 있다고 여길 때 소외감과 두려움의 발로가 되어 부정적 의미로 받아들여지고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This study is intended to review how subjects of old age poems recognize senescence of each organ and how they embody it by focusing on ‘senescent body’ appearing in old age poems as a part of a study on modern old age poems of Korea, so it can show the poetic response in the aging society.
The reasoning about ‘seemingly senescent body’ in modern old age poems of Korea is spoken more directly and realistically in poems whose utterance subjects are the old. The ‘seemingly senescent body’ is a major factor of admitting aging. The recognition about the senescent body is sometimes expressed as anguish through negative image or comparison, and some poems reveal the beauty and significance of old age through positive expression.
‘The senescence of sensory organs’ is the senescence that poets feel most regretful, and they are very afraid that they can't perceive poetic objects any more. Among the sensory organs, the senescence of hearing is the factor that becomes obstacle of communicating with others, and a sense of alienation as a result is expressed. However, the subjects of old age poems show the attitude of accepting senescence of body in stead of experiencing bitter conflict caused by the senescence of hearing. Meanwhile, the senescence of eyesight brings about inconvenience of life sometimes causing dangerous situations, but rather they accept the phenomenon of being unable to see well as a new visional experience, showing poetic talent that perceive the new world differently.
The reasoning of ‘the senescence of bony tissue’ highlights the pain of senescent body by comparing the old with mobility difficulties to young people's healthy and fast walking. It also makes young people realize the importance of health and have understanding and thoughtfulness towards the old with mobility difficulties. In addition, there are some old age poems that show the attitude of considering others rather than wanting to be given preferential treatment with their senescent bony tissue, or that appease the pain of senescent bony tissue and the fear of death with playful expression.
The reasoning of ‘the senescence of urinary system and genital organ’ in modern age poems of Korea instills the recognition that it is never shameful phenomenon but the process of returning to the beginning as it is the part that causes the worst humilation among other organs' senescence. In addition, it emphasizes that ‘aging’ is the one that moves regardless of body and mind's intention, and that those who haven't experienced never know what the helplessness and embarrassment would be like. It conveys a message to not despise the old when they can't control their body due to senescence of urinary system or genital organ.
In this context, the ‘senescent body’ described in Korean modern old age poems is admitted as a positive meaning when the subject takes it as a one of the way conforming the paradigm of nature, however, when the senescent body reflected to paradigm of social relations, subject of poem often takes it a feeling of alienation and fear of identity.
