본 연구는 플라톤과 데카르트의 논의를 통해 감각과 이성의 관계에서 진정한 인식의 중요성을 탐구하고, 이를 예술 이론에서 새롭게 이해하고자 하였다. 두 철학자의 논의는 배우의 말과 몸을 재해석하여 연기 예술의 본질을 재고하는 데 중요한 시사점을 제공하였다. 특히, 기계론적이고 수단적인 육체가 아닌 몸으로서의 개념을 재정립하고, 급진적 비판 이후 말의 의미를 새롭게 평가하는 계기를 마련하였다. 이는 감각의 인식적 가치와 미적 가치를 균형 있게 고려하는 과정으로, 감각과 이성의 상호작용에 의해 이루어졌다. 그리하여 진정한 인식에 도달할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구하였다. 연구는 플라톤과 데카르트의 감각 이해를 비교분석함으로써 배우의 말과 몸의 재해석을 통해 연기 예술의 본질을 재고하는 데 중점을 두었다. 먼저, 플라톤의 감각 이해를 다루었다. 플라톤은 감각이 구체적 기준을 제공하지 못하므로 이성의 도움이 필요하다고 강조하였다. 이는 손가락의 비유를 통해 설명되었는데, 플라톤은 감각을 통해 얻은 정보를 분별하고 이해할 수 있는 것은 오직 이성이라고 주장하였다. 따라서 독사(doxa)에 대한 비판 없이는 감각의 한계를 깨닫지 못하며, 진정한 앎에 이르기 위해서는 독사비판이 필수적이라고 보았다. 다음으로, 데카르트의 감각 이해를 고찰하였다. 데카르트는 밀랍의 예를 통해 감각의 신뢰성을 의심하며, 사유하는 존재로서의 정신을 발견하는 과정을 설명하였다. 그는 감각적 판단의 불확실성을 인식하고, 이성에 기반한 확실한 의식을 추구하였다. 이는 데카르트가 감각을 비판하는 급진적 접근으로, 인식의 전제 자체인 감각에 이의를 제기한 것이다. 데카르트의 의심은 언어에까지 확장되었으며, 결국 발견된 정신은 불확실한 감각적 판단 능력을 내재화하여 의식화하였다. 그러나 데카르트의 접근은 감각을 단순히 수용적인 측면으로만 간주하여 감각의 적극적 역할을 간과하였다.

영어초록

This study aimed to explore the importance of true understanding in the relationship between sensation and reason through the discussions of Plato and Descartes, and to reinterpret this understanding within the context of art theory. The discussions of these two philosophers provided significant insights for reinterpreting the actor's speech and body, thus reconsidering the essence of performing arts. In particular, it helped redefine the concept of the body as more than just a mechanistic and instrumental entity, offering a new perspective on the meaning of speech following radical criticism. Consequently, the study explored the potential to reach genuine cognition. By comparing and analyzing Plato and Descartes' understandings of sensation, the research focused on reinterpreting the actor's speech and body to reconsider the essence of performing arts. Firstly, the study examined Plato's understanding of sensation. Plato emphasized that sensation does not provide concrete criteria and therefore requires the assistance of reason. This was illustrated through the analogy of the fingers, where Plato argued that only reason can discern and understand the information obtained through sensation. Without the critique of doxa, the limitations of sensation cannot be realized, and thus the critique of doxa is essential for attaining true knowledge. Next, the study considered Descartes' understanding of sensation. Through the example of wax, Descartes questioned the reliability of sensation and described the process of discovering the mind as a thinking entity. He recognized the uncertainty of sensory judgments and pursued a certain consciousness based on reason. This radical critique of sensation led Descartes to question the very premise of sensation. His doubt extended to language, and the discovered mind ultimately internalized and became conscious of the uncertain capabilities of sensory judgment. However, Descartes' approach overlooked the active role of sensation by considering it merely as a passive aspect.
