초록

이 논문은 철학사에서 배제되어온 몸과 감정의 문제를 철학적 중심으로 가지고 옴으로써 근대철학이 처한 이분법적 인식론의 문제를 해소하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 데카르트 이후 몸과 정신의 관계가 문제되면서 그것의 매개로서의 정념 또는 감정이 인간 본성의 문제로 제기되었다는 것은 주지할만한 사실이다. 이후 스피노자에게 와서 정념은 데카르트적 이분법을 넘어서서 일원론적 세계관 속에서 자기보존의 욕구, 즉 코나투스로 이해되었고, 감정은 철학적 주제의 중심에서 해명되어야할 문제가 되었다. 그러나 스피노자에게서도 몸은 여전히 배제되어 있고, 물질은 정신의 이면으로 남아 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 데카르트와 스피노자가 제기한 정념의 문제는 이분법적 인식과 이성주의가 남긴 문제를 역설적으로 보여주고 있다. 이와 같은 철학적 흐름 속에서 감정의 문제를 몸의 문제와 함께 해명해야할 필요성이 제기된다.
몸과 감정의 문제에는 두 가지 난제가 포함된다. 하나는 물질과 정신 또는 주관과 객관의 문제이며, 또 하나는 이성과 감성이다. 몸은 물질적이고 객관적이며, 감정은 심리-주관적이다. 감성적인 것이 외적인 것에 관계하며, 이성은 내적인 원리로 받아들이게 될 때, 감정은 감성적인 것에서 내적인 것으로 나아가는 힘으로 이해될 수 있다. 그러나 이는 지각의 문제를 인식의 문제로 받아들이는 한에서 그러하다.
본고에서는 이 문제를 메를로-퐁티의 철학을 통해 비판적으로 고찰하고 있다. 몸은 몸-주체로서 대상이자 주체이다. 그래서 몸-주체는 실존적 주체이며, 몸은 실존의 가능적 근거가 된다. 몸-주체의 지각은 인식론적 지각이 아니라 관능적인 지각이며, 욕구이다. 우리는 몸 틀을 통해 지각의 가능적 방식을 확인할 수 있다. 몸 틀은 상황 속에서 형성되므로 몸은 상황에 처한 몸이다. 그리고 감정은 상황 속에서 일어나는 타인과 세계와의 변형이다. 그리하여 우리는 몸과 감정의 논의가 소통과 공감의 문제이며, 공실존의 문제임을 확인한다.

영어초록

This thesis is The objective of this research is to solve the problems of dichotomous epistemology of the modern philosophy by bringing the problem of body and feelings, which has been excluded in the history of philosophy to the center of philosophy. Since Descartes, the relationship between body and mind has become an issue, and it is noticeable that passion or emotion as its mediation has been brought up as the problem of human nature. Later for Spinoza, passion went beyond Descartes’ dichotomy and was understood as self-preserving desire in the monistic worldview, i.e. Conatus, while emotion became a problem that should be explained at the center of philosophical themes Still, however, body was neglected by Spinoza, and materials were left in the dark side of mind. Nevertheless, the problems of passion presented by Descartes and Spinoza show the problems left by dichotomous cognition and rationalism paradoxically. In such philosophical flow, the necessity of solving the problem of emotions along with the problem of body is presented.
The problems of body and feelings include two challenges; one is the problem of materials and mind or subjectivity and objectivity, and the other is reason and emotion. Body is material and objective, while emotion is psycho-subjective. When emotional things are related to external things, and reason is accepted with internal principles, emotion can be understood as power going from emotional things to internal things. However, this is only limited to that the problem of perception is accepted as the problem of cognition.
This research reviews this problem critically through Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy. Body is the target and subject as body-subject. Therefore, body-subject is existential subject, and body becomes a possible basis of existence. Perception of body-subject is not epistemic perception but sensual perception and desire. We can see the possible way of perception through the frame of body. As the body frame is formed in situations, body is placed in situations. Moreover, emotion is transformation of others and the world in the situations. As such, we identify that discussion on body and feelings is the problem of communication and sympathy and the problem of coexistence and existence.
