팬데믹 시대의 연극과 노동자의 몸 -재난자본주의 시대의 몸에 대한 극적 상상력- (The Theaters in the Pandemic Era and the Body of Workers -A Study on Dramatic Imagination about Body in the Age of Disaster Capitalism-)

본고는 코로나19 시국에 공연된 재난 소재 연극을 대상으로, 극 중 자본주의의 풍경과 계급사회의 문제는 어떻게 구현되는지를 ‘몸’의 상상력이라는 측면에 초점 을 맞춰 논의한다. 대상작은 신자유주의 시스템하에서 오염되고 훼손된 몸의 문제 를 전경화한 연극 <우리는 이 도시에 함께 도착했다>, <괴물B>, 그리고 <미숙의 쿠 키상자>이다. 세 작품은 재난 상황 속에서 다시금 타자화된 소수자들, 곧 산재노동 자, 여성, 레즈비언 등의 존재를 가시화했으며, 근미래의 풍경을 상상하거나 신체 접합이라는 상상력을 발휘했다는 점에서 넓은 의미의 SF연극이다. 특히 재난의 계층화라는 문제와 변이된 몸에 대한 상상력을 중첩시킨다는 점에서 공통분모를 갖 는다. 그런데 훼손된 노동자의 몸을 ‘괴물’로 규정한 이들 연극이 타자와 연결된 그 신체에서 정치성과 저항성을 발견하고 있다는 점은 주목할 만하다. <괴물B>, <미 숙의 쿠키상자>에서 산재노동자가 된 괴물들은 각자의 방식으로 체제와 불화하며 해법을 찾아간다. 또한 <우리는 이 도시에 함께 도착했다>와 <괴물B>가 소수자들 의 사랑과 연대에서 이 시대를 견딜 방안을 모색하고 있다면, <미숙의 쿠키상자>는 이웃 간의 연대가 불가능한 혐오사회 속에서 살인과 유기의 완벽한 은폐라는 판타 지적인 해법을 보여준다. 이 같은 극적 대안은 추상적이거나 비현실적으로 느껴질 수 있지만, 궁극적으로 재난의 약자가 신자유주의 시대에 대처하는 각자의 방식을 무대화하여 보여준다는 점에서 의미를 갖는다.

영어초록

This study is aimed at the theaters with the subject matter as a disaster that were performed in the midst of COVID-19, and discusses how the landscape of capitalism and the problem of hierarchical society in the theaters are realized with the focus on the aspect dubbed the imagination of ‘body.’ The subject works include the theaters such as We Arrived in This City Together, Monster B and Misuk’s Cookie Box that foregrounded a problem of the body, which was contaminated and damaged under the system of neoliberalism. Three works correspond to the SF theater in a broad sense with regard to having visualized the existence of minority members who had become others again in a disaster situation, that is, of industrial accident workers, women, lesbians, and to having imagined the landscape of the near future or having exercised the imagination called joining the body. There is a common denominator especially in terms of superimposing the imagination on the problem about stratification in disasters and on the mutated body. By the way, it is noticeable that these theaters of having defined the damaged workers' bodies as 'monsters' are discovering the politics and resistance in the bodies connected to others. The monsters who became industrial accident workers in Monster B and Misuk’s Cookie Box proceed with finding a solution while being at odds with the system in their own way. Also, We Arrived in This City Together and Monster B are seeking a measure enough to endure this era from the love and solidarity of minorities. On the other hand, Misuk’s Cookie Box shows a fantastic solution dubbed the complete concealment of murder and abandonment in the middle of a hateful society where solidarity between neighbors is impossible. This dramatic alternative plan may be felt to be abstract or unrealistic, but ultimately has a significance in that weak people in disasters display each other's way of dealing with the neoliberal era on stage.
