미국, 영국, 중국 주요 대중음악 학과의 교육환경 비교분석 연구: 교원 전문성, 교육 수월성, 교과목 다양성을 중심으로 (A Comparative Analysis of Education Environment of Major Popular Music Departments in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China: Base on the Rate of Teacher recruitment, Educational facilities,)

초록

20세기에 이르러 대중음악은 전 세계 음악 시장의 주요 흥행 요소가 되면서 음악 교육에 있어서도 대중음 악의 중요성이 점차 부각되고 있다. 대학에서의 대중음악 교육은 팝음악의 상업화를 주도한 미국을 중심으로 번창하기 시작했으며, 팝음악 역사에 있어 중요한 부흥을 이끈 영국 또한 대중음악 교육의 선도국가 중 하나로 인식되고 있다. 최근 세계의 대중음악 시장은 급속한 변화를 거듭하고 있으며, 이에 중국 또한 대중음악 교육 의 개척과 발전에 많은 노력과 투자를 가속화하고 있다. 본 연구는, 많은 선행연구가 존재하는 한국 대중음악 교육 연구에 비해 아직까지 조사된 사례가 없는 미국, 영국, 중국 주요 대학의 대중음악 교육환경을 교원 충원 율, 교육시설, 개설 교과목 중심으로 분석하고 이를 비교함으로써, 주요국의 대중음악 교육 동향을 파악하는데 중점을 두었다. 그 결과로 각 국가의 교원 전문성, 교육 수월성, 교과목 다양성의 장단점 등 여러 시사점을 도 출하였다. 교원 전문성의 경우, 미국과 영국은 중국의 대중음악 학과보다 상대적으로 낮은 교원 충원율과 전임 교원 비율에도 불구하고 교원의 전문성은 더 우수한 것으로 평가할 수 있었다. 교육 수월성의 경우, 영국은 첨 단기술 교육을, 미국은 공연 실무 교육을, 그리고 중국은 개인의 역량 강화 교육을 위한 수월성 제고에 교육환 경을 집중하는 경향을 띠고 있음이 확인 되었다. 교과목 다양성의 경우, 중국이 미국과 영국의 대중음악 학과 보다 교과목 수가 현저히 부족하며 특히 음악경영 등 진로와 취업에 관련된 교과목이 취약하다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 대중음악 교육 발전을 위한 몇 가지 제언을 제시하였다.

영어초록

After the 20th century, popular music is occupied an important place in the world music industry. In music education, the importance of popular music education also become prominent gradually. The United States dominates the commercialization of popular music as a centre of collegiate popular music education development. The United Kingdom, which has always been a trendsetter in popular music, is also considered one of the leading countries in popular music education. In recent years, the world's popular music market environment continues to change rapidly. China has also invested a lot of efforts and investment in popular music education development toward this variation. This study analyzed the educational environment of popular music in major universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China, which have not been investigated yet compared to the Korean pop music educa- tion studies in which many previous studies exist, focusing on the rate of teacher recruitment, educa- tional facilities, and courses offered. And by comparing these, the emphasis was placed on grasping the trends of popular music education in major countries. The advantages and disadvantages of major coun- try's popular music departments, in terms of teacher-student ratio, teaching facilities, curriculum setting, and many enlightenment points, are obtained through these analysis results. In the teacher-student ratio, the teacher-student ratio of full-time faculty in the popular music department of the United States and the United Kingdom is lower than in China. However, they are more outstanding in the educational background of teachers. In the educational facilities, the United Kingdom and the United States tend to focus on high technology facilities construction and performance facilities construction differently, while China tends to invest in individual practice facilities. In the curriculum setting, compared with the popu- lar music departments in the United States and the United Kingdom, China is insufficient in the number of curriculum and lacks music management-related courses. Based on the above research results, this study puts forward some suggestions for the development of popular music education finally.
